Boxer Manny Pacquiao spends first day on job as congressman

July 26, 2010 | 12:52 pm
Manny_400 Days after the announcement of his next bout, boxer Manny Pacquiao spent his first day on the job in his new role as a congressman, attending the opening of the 15th Philippine

Floyd Mayweather Jr. camp responds to HBO, Arum comments

July 27, 2010 | 6:42 am

Hours after the president of HBO Sports said he had negotiated with both sides in an effort to make a Manny Pacquiao-Floyd Mayweather Jr. mega-fight on Nov. 13, Mayweather's lead adviser again denied the claim.

"Floyd is his own boss, calling his own shots," Leonard Ellerbe told The Times on Monday night.

HBO Sports President Ross Greenburg said in a prepared statement earlier Monday that he indeed had discussed the fight with representatives of both Pacquiao and Mayweather in an effort to make a bout that would match the repeat fighter of the year from the Philippines with unbeaten Mayweather.

The mediation failed, and Pacquiao proceeded to a replacement fight against Antonio Margarito on Nov. 13 at a site to be determined. The bout will be for the vacant WBS super-welterweight title, possibly Pacquiao's record eighth weight-division world title.

#boxing Manny #Pacquiao’s next fight

Promoter Bob Arum says he has found an opponent and a date for Manny Pacquiao’s next fight and although no site has been named, it doesn’t look like it will be at Cowboys Stadium.

According to Arum, Pacquiao will fight Antonio Margarito on Nov. 13 for a vacant 154-pound championship. The site will be either Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Garden Arena, which can handle about 17,000 fans, or a 22,000-seat arena in Monterrey, Mexico.

#Darts ace Dave Ladley is facing pro ‘heartbreak’

Darts ace Dave Ladley is facing pro ‘heartbreak’ – Lets try and help him!

Dave Ladley, Darren Johnson and Mark Lawrence

Dave Ladley (middle), fighting to get the help he needs to earn his tour card for 2011

UPDATE: There’s a growing facebook group here – where Dave Holland is organising the appeal for Ladders. Dennis Priestly has kindly donated one of his actual match worn shirts, signed specially – which is being auctioned via the group… and Jamie Caven has also donated a set of his darts with a signed darts case.

I wrote a little while ago about my mate and friend to this site Dave ‘Ladders’ Ladley – he’s shared many funny and informative write-ups of what it’s like to be a pro on the PDC tour.

Well Dave is facing a tough decision… he needs more ranking points in the remaining player championships to ensure he makes the top 96 players in the PDC, so he will get his ‘tour card’ for next year. The tour card is being introduced in 2011 and it will benefit those who qualify, giving them better shots and chances to make money on the tour.

The trouble is that Dave lost his main sponsor through no fault of his own, and now needs a sponsor (or sponsors) to come forward to help him ensure he can play in the remaining qualifiers of 2010, and then hopefully get those couple of places he needs to qualify for the tour card (Dave is 98th in line.. and needs to be at least 96th!).

With 13 events of the darts season still to be played there is still an awful lot of chopping and changing possible in those rankings, so Dave knows he has work to do…

Congrats to the 2010 #PDC Women's Wold Champion

Stacy Bromberg win's the Championship after having to comeback from 5-3 down to Patricia Wright. Stacy started the match well throwing 140's and hitting her doubles well, but that did not hold up as Patricia Wright came back strong and improved her scoring while Stacy suffered from 'Double Trouble'. With Wright on leg from the championship Stacy found her scoring and doubles, and forced an 11th leg decider.

In the 11th leg it could be said that Wright seemed to be effected by the pressure, as her scoring seemed to desert her, and Bromberg took full advantage to forge on to 2010 PDC Women's World Darts Championship.

It was an enjoyable match to watch, and I think that a televised post match interview would have been a plus.
