Fundraiser for young #darts star

27 Aug, 2010 08:22 AM
THE Memo Club is raising funds to help one of Australia’s rising darts stars to attend a national competition early next year.

Jackson Wilson-Young, 13, will represent the Northern Territory in the Australian Junior Darts Championships for the third consecutive year.

After his first championships, Jackson was named Rookie of the Year.

This year he finished in a coveted overall sixth position.

Memorial Club Manager, Doug Logan, said Lin Andrews Real Estate had donated stubby coolers which are now on sale.

“The proceeds will go to helping Jackson make his way down south for the forthcoming championships,” he said.

“We’re trying to support a kid with a lot of potential.

“He comes highly recommended as one to watch as a possible future Australian champion.”

Mr Logan said Jackson is in with a good chance to be selected to represent the Australian team which will travel to South Africa in April next year.

“If he does get selected - and we’re all hoping he will - the Memo has already pledged support for him,” he said.

“It’s a good thing for Jackson and it helps to build up a good name for Tennant Creek.”

The non-stop marathon event at The Weigh-Inn Bar in Omagh this weekend is expected to last around 35 hours from Friday afternoon to late Saturday night.

Dartoids World 8-14-2010, #darts

Greetings!
Both Dartoid and The Old Dart Coach, Howie Reed, are back with new columns today! The T'oid's is brief while the ODC's is the usual length but there is a similarity to their subjects.
Dartoid: There is a fundamental difference between promoting with zeal and knowingly misleading people in an effort to garner attention and profit for your enterprise.
Howie: Toeing the Oche has for the most part been positive on the Professional Darts Corporation. They, the PDC, have accomplished in fewer than 15 years what the sport couldn't accomplish in the 500 years prior. A TV contract, the end of phony draws, real rankings and a new level of excellence from the oche. “So what’s the beef ?” With success sometimes those responsible for achievement feel empowered. In their own minds they become anointed as infallible and all-knowing.

#darts The very first World Championship

Recently the first PDC Unicorn Women's World Championship was played. Unicorn was the main sponsor of the tournament but it was not the first time Unicorn was involved in such an enterprise. Years ago Unicorn already once was the main sponsor of another tournament, as well a World Championship. This tournament set up new standards and one probably can say it was the starting point of the "modern" tournament.

This very first World Championship seems to be some kind of "forgotten" World Championship which is quite astonishing because in it's second year during the tournament the WDF was founded as a lot of officials were there anyway...
The tournament even was televised on ITV.
It is not really known why it took place only twice.http://www.globaldarts.de/globalDartsEN/global/ersteWM.html

#darts The Mental Game...

Zone, Focus, Mind and Thought Part 1

Zone, Focus, Mind and Thought

Often in games like soccer, darts, tennis etc, a persons mindset is important to excel or play at a satisfactory level. Everything at some point needs or requires your mind to work actively or passively. We talk about repetition to gain consistency is darts. We often use short cuts like preshot routines to set up a certain mindset. An example of this would be the Dennis Preistly finger lick or Taylors methodical setup before he throws. I often see people playing with their darts when they are waiting for their turn. These are all examples of triggers. An action that lets the mind know of what is to come up next. These tend to be active.

http://sewa-darts.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=17752

Zone, Focus, Mind and Thought Part 2

The Zone

So what the heck is it. Well its best shown by examples. Most of us have seen Jordan, Schumacher, Pele, Montana etc etc. Hit a point in their game where they are described as in the Zone. Interestingly, atheletes are only the most obvious examples of this occurance. Writers, Artists and Stock Traders are some examples of the not so obvious.
Michelangelo is most commonly associated to his paintings. Yet it was sculpting which he was truly head above his peers. He could see the form within a marble block. And would shed huge chunks of the precious Italian marble without hesitation and at an alarming rate. He would get in the zone while working with his favorite media.

http://sewa-darts.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=17758

Zone, Focus, Mind and Thought Part 3

The Mind

For many of us the biggest hurdle is our mind. Oddly our mind can be our biggest friend but also can be our biggest pain in the Ass. Everyone whom has read the first 2 parts of this series has taken complete and different aspects of each. Chances are only the parts that are agreeable have remained. Some of us, including myself will likely take it "as well its just an opinion". And yes that is all it is. But truthfully how much things can influence the persons mind is astonishing. A persons mind is as complex as it is simple. The old saying garbage in garbage out is true. If you consistently fill yourself with drivel when you are going to get that right back.

http://sewa-darts.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=17760

Zone, Focus, Mind and Thought Part 4

Thought

Zone, Focus and the Mind are all actually relatively tangible. We all know pretty well what being in the zone means, how and when we are focused and finally that we actually have something that churns between our ears with our mind. Thought however is a whole different kettle of tea.

#Darts and TV audiences – the UK’s biggest indoor sport!

It’s a great time be be a darts fan – after a real lull in the televised game in the 90?s, it’s really come into its own again.  Love them or hate them, Sky Sports really lit the blue touch paper when it came to darts, bringing a new high glitz, professionally packaged product to the sports mad public.  Their 15 week premier league has been a real exhibition of darts – a showcase event which brings in a wedge of cash to the PDC coffers, allowing them to fund the richest darts tour of all time.

ITV have got back into darts in recent years, showing the Grand Slam of Darts (which gets some great viewing figures off on ITV4), and has won many plaudits for its great coverage (not quite as full on as Sky’s effort, but possibly a touch more informative with better and more frequent interviews).  I’d put the Sky spotter & camermen 1st though – they hardly ever miss a single dart or where it’s thrown.

Over 200 players expected for today’s #darts tourney

MORE than 200 darts players are expected to compete in the National Heroes Closed tournament at RBZ Sports Club this morning.

The tournament is expected to run up to Tuesday when the participants will be presented with prizes for their efforts.

National Darts Association of Zimbabwe president Meynard Moyo said eight provinces had indicated that they would participate in this year’s tournament.

"We are expecting players from

Manicaland, Masvingo, Matabeleland

South, Midlands, Mashonaland East, Mashonaland West, Bulawayo and the hosts Harare.

"Competition in the games has been on the increase."Mashonaland East are the defending champions and they seem to have an equally strong team again this year.

"The darts tournament is an annual event and it is now in its 29th edition and was put in memory of our heroes.

"I believe the best team will win.

"We want all those who want to watch and learn darts to come since most people think it is a game of drunkards, when it an interesting game.

"Our official opening is at 11:30am tomorrow (today) and our prize-giving and the closing ceremony is on at 9am on August 10," said Moyo.

Mash East top seed Peter Mulukhula is confident his side will put all it takes for them to defend their title.

"It will not be easy for other provinces

to wrestle the trophy from us, said

Mulukhula.

Individual events for men are going to be

interesting with the top player in Zone

Six David Nyemba from Mashonaland West back in top form but he will have to contend with Mulukhulu and Moses Ndlovu from Bulawayo.

In the women’s category, defending champions Midlands have also vowed to retain their trophy.

In other women’s games Melody Gezana from Manicaland looks set to upset top seeds, Tabeth Zhoya and Sibabone Mamwiri both from Midlands.

Darts: Sky ace looking for blue-eyed boy to see off 'boring' Taylor
SKY darts pundit Rod Harrington reckons the sport needs a pin-up player to replace 15-time world champion Phil Taylor and stop fans from switching off.
Harrington, a former world number one with both the BDO and PDC, is an expert for Sky Sports and also a director of the PDC.
He is putting together a youth system he hopes will find a player to replace Potteries legend Taylor at the top of the sport he has dominated for two decades.

#darts Bravo’s Backstage Round up

European Darts Championship 2010
29th Jul – 1st Aug 2010. Dunslaken, Germany
We landed in a sunny Düsseldorf late on Friday afternoon; and after watching Thursday nights action live on Bravo, we where eager to arrive and  get a taste the action first-hand. After shoveling down some schnitzel at the hotel, we jumped in a taxi and headed straight for Stadthalle in Dinslaken, where we we’re greeted by a bunch of very jovial fans, enjoying a pre-match beer or two.
We settling down in the pressroom with the lovely chaps from the PDC, and got stuck into the first game. The first night had seen raining champion Phil Taylor win 6-2 to Co Stompe in what was a pretty edgy start, but clear finish for the people’s favourite. The second night saw some serious action, with hotly tipped Raymond van Barneveld edging out Andy Hamilton in an 11-leg thriller and favourites James Wade and Adrian Lewis taking the early flight home.
We caught up with presenter James Richardson at the end of play, who said;
“It started off brilliantly with Bernd Roith taking out Ovens which really got the crowed into it, then we had the German - Dutch clash that got the pulses racing. Terrific match from Colin Lloyd and James Wade as well, so its been outstanding; a real step-up from last night”

Saturday was destined to be a big one, with two 19-leg sessions on a very muggy and action packed day. The crowed where out in full force with fancy dress, home made signs and strong German lager was firmly on the menu. The first session saw Jenkins earning his last eight place with a 10-8 defeat of Simon Whitlock.
The break was filled with players-lounge banter followed by a quick pizza at the local Italian, then back to Stadthalle for the Bates vs Caven head-to-head, culminating in a 10-6 win to a delighted Caven. It was a tense moment as Roith took the lead over Van Barneveld, but he pulled it back and secured a 10-7 victory. Taylor vs Smith saw the champion carry on defending his rain with a huge 10-5 win. We managed to grab him after him came off stage and asked what his predictions where for the final’
“He played well, he’s a difficult opponent to play well against because he’s a loveable guy, everybody loves him….But as soon as it comes down to those final 5 legs, it’s a different kettle of fish”
Sunday was another hot day and the afternoon sessions saw some serious dart action. Both Taylor and Jones won their matches with bullseyes, pleasing a very hyped up crowed and 2nd in the world Van Barneveld heading home. It was all to play for in the evening final.
The first semi-final match was one of the tensest of the whole tournament and saw both Jones and Lloyd neck-and-neck for the whole game. Jones finally took it with a strong double 8, winning 11-10 and wondering if he would see the raining champion in the final.
The second semi-final was just as, if not more gripping than the first. Jenkins put up a seriously strong fight against Taylor, finally loosing out 11-10 in a tense last leg.
And so to the final, world champion Phil ‘The Power’ Taylor against Wayne Jones in his first ever televised final. The atmosphere in the room was electric and you could here a pin drop when the first dart was thrown. Half way through and Taylor was 5-0, you could see he was gunning for a complete wipeout. The final score was 11-1 to Taylor but the room was filled with admiration for Jones who had put up a strong fight.
All in all it was an amazing weekend. We had a great time backstage with all of the players and PDC members who really made it for us. What a bunch!

#darts form the email stack... round robin tournament

Hi Darters,

If you are into promoting Darts in your local area, you might be interested in
some programs to put on tournaments in a limited fashion.
WCDO has promoted over 68 tournaments running from 16 to 100 people.
These tournaments give the Up and Coming Players the experience of playing one
on one with many opponents, and give them more experience than they could get in
8 to 10 regular tournaments. Because these tournaments start with a Round Robin
feature it requires you to have a venue that would have a board for every 4 to 5
participants.

Dartoids World 8-2-2010, #darts

Greetings!
The Old Dart Coach, Howie Reed, is back - with a rundown on the PartyPoker.com European Championships. Phil Taylor took the Big Bucks but it's Howie who is "over the moon."
Back in the day when the Old Dart Coach was the Old Rodeo Guy the days around July 4th used to be called “Cowboy’s Christmas.” The name emerged from a string of rodeos around that holiday that could make or break a cowboy’s year. Now with darts a professional sport the PartyPoker.com European Championships could well be darts’ Boxing Day. If the premise is accepted, I hereby proclaim that The World Matchplay was dart players’ Christmas and welcome you to The Stadthalle in Dinslaken, Germany for Boxing Day. With £200,000 in prize money, including £50,000 for Phil Taylor, this tournament is a big deal, with 31 players fighting for £20,000 in runner up money.
