Let the Avon Bar Games begin

Thursday night events give contestants a chance to win a Las Vegas trip and more

AVON, Colorado — There’s no training necessary, and you won’t win any gold medals, but Bob’s Place, Finnegan’s Wake and Loaded Joe’s have teamed up for their version of the drinking Olympics — the Avon Bar Games. The games take place every Thursday night through Dec. 11, with the exception of Thanksgiving Day.

Contestants can win gift certificates to Avon businesses such as Outback Steakhouse, Avon Liquors and Venture Sports, along with a kegerator, Guitar Hero merchandise and the grand prize: a trip to Las Vegas.

“The concept is to get everybody out to the three bars ... (so they can) see what they’re about and that they’re all different,” said Kent Beidel, owner of Loaded Joe’s. “We’re trying to get everybody to go to each of the bars each night.”

One of the main goals of the event is to expose residents to local businesses, said Chris Doyle, general manager of Bob’s Place.

Each of the bars will feature traditional and nontraditional drinking games that patrons can pair up to play. The games are meant to foster community and team spirit, Doyle said.

Some of the games on this year’s roster include beer pong, pool, darts, Guitar Hero, Wii bowling, Twister and flip cup.

Contestants can win merchandise from alcohol sponsors for winning the individual events. Attendees who visit each of the bars every week have a better chance of winning the grand prize — Vegas, baby!

Here’s how it works: Each participating bar will be handing out official Avon Bar Games cards. Playing a game at one bar earns you a stamp on the card, which gets your team entered into the prize drawing twice. If you play a game at each of the three bars, your team will be entered into the prize drawings a total of 10 times. If you win, you win as a team.
“The more you participate, the better your chances are to win,” Beidel said.
