CAMBRIDGESHIRE have retained their British Inter-Counties League, Premier Division status.
But their relief at avoiding relegation was tinged with disappointment after their women’s A team missed the chance of winning their section championship.
Overall, Cambs lost 22-17 to Essex in their final game, but results elsewhere condemned Oxfordshire and Surrey to the drop, although the defeat sent Cambs plunging to eight place – 10 points and one rung above the danger zone.
However, in the compacted lower half of the table, where 22 points separated fifth from 10th before the final round, Cambs virtually knew they were safe after the B team games on the first day when they were 9-9 with Essex – thanks to a 4-2 win for the women, their first of the season, and a 7-5 defeat for the men – and Glamorgan were thumping Oxfordshire 14-4.

CAMBRIDGESHIRE secured their Premier Division safety but missed out on sampling some success during a final weekend of the British Inter-Counties Premier Division season filled with mixed emotions.
Top priority for the local throwers was preserving their top-flight status and that was achieved despite a 22-17 defeat at the hands of Essex at the March United Services Club. (full article...)

Darts: Crawford steps into the Cambs A team and stars in win
Cambridgeshire hauled themselves off the bottom of the British Inter-Counties Premier Division standings by winning a basement battle against fellow strugglers Surrey.
Cambs also jumped clear of the relegation zone after a stirring last stand in the final session of the men's A team clash secured a 24-15 overall victory including three bonus points.
Simon Cassidy, Eddie Martin, Steve Roberts and Paul Crawford provided the late drama by hitting a hot streak when it mattered most – Crawford had only been called into the side after impressing in his B team game the previous day.
Cambs had endured a mixed opening day – their Ladies B side going down to defeat after Fiona Coker, Sue Bell, Debbie Melton and Heather Phillips were beaten in the first four contests before the men's B bunch claimed a cracking success. (full article...)
