Derby Win For Walsh - 19 Apr 2009

MARK WALSH came from 4-0 down to defeat Raymond van Barneveld in the final of the Blue Square UK Open East Midlands Regional Final.

Walsh picked up his second tournament victory of 2009 with a resilient display to claim the £6,000 first prize at the Moorways Centre in Derby.

He had to show his battling qualities throughout the day, defeating Derby-based Colin Osborne 6-5 to reach the last 32 and then seeing off Kevin Dowling and Co Stompe 6-4 - the latter after being 4-1 down.

Punch Taverns Regional Finals

THE Punch Taverns Regional Finals will take place this coming Saturday and Sunday to determine the 32 qualifiers for the Blue Square UK Open.

Four Regional Finals will be staged over the weekend, with eight players from each winning a place at the Reebok Stadium next month.

Saturday 12 May will see Home Farm Holiday Park in Somerset and Bigwigs in Manchester stage Regional Finals.

Taylor Wins At Wembley!

PHIL TAYLOR won his second Regional Final of the 2007 Blue Square UK Open with a 2-0 win over Wayne Mardle.

Taylor took the first prize in the opening Regional Final in Wales last September, and backed that up at The Torch in London to add a further £5,000 to his prize money.

He had to battle past Darren Richardson, Martyn Turner, Andy Jenkins and Alan Tabern to reach the last eight, before heading to Wembley on Sunday.

He whitewashed Dennis Priestley in the quarter-finals, defeated Colin Lloyd in straight sets in the semis and backed that up with a 2-0 win in the final.

Phil Taylor enjoys proving the critics wrong and ‘The Power’ has done it again – following up his brilliant comeback win over Raymond Van Barneveld in the Premier League, with an impressive victory at the UK Open London Regional event.

Taylor beat Wayne Mardle in the final, after disposing of fellow Team Unicorn star Colin Lloyd in the semi’s.

TAYLOR RUNNING HOT IN LONDON

Phil Taylor proved once more that he is getting back to his best – cruising through the first day of the UK Open London Regional – to reach Sunday’s quarter-finals.

‘The Power’ will be joined by Colin Lloyd in the last eight. The other qualifiers are Mervyn King, Vincent van der Voort, Wayne Mardle, Terry Jenkins, Dennis Priestley and Steve Beaton.

Taylor dropped only four legs all day – eventually beating Alan Tabern 5-1 to go through.

Lloyd was on good form but was forced to find top gear in his final game, before beating Adrian Gray 5-3.

Of the other Team Unicorn stars, Peter Manley reached the last 16. He lost 1-5 to Chris Mason.

In Round three, Adrian Lewis was beaten 5-2 by Wayne Mardle, Ray Carver lost by the same score to Tony Eccles and Kevin Painter went down 5-1 to Gary Welding......
