Got dart mail?

As I was checking my email this morning I noticed my spam folder, don't ask me why but I did, normally I don't pay much attention to the contents of this folder but today a few items did get my attention. Now I know that most everything in this blog is dart related but just give me this exception; onward with the story...

I had spent some time yesterday looking for printing products such as reams of paper, card stock and other items at various on line vendor's websites. So when I saw an item from quill.com in the folder I paused to think; “Did I ask them to send me information” and if I did "Why is it in the Spam folder?" Then a few items down another email form an on line printing company, and the answer was clear .... MORE SPAM! That's all it took for me to figure it out I would have to run a spyware scan because much of my spam was closely related to sites I had visited and searches I had done.

By the way I always use Spybot-S&D and Ad-Aware SE Personal edition
to do my spyware scans. If you really care I use AVG Free Edition to fight viruses. But I do digress... After my scans I discovered it had been a while since my last scan and several items of “spyware” were happily at work on my system and needed to be removed. That's when it hit me.....

Of all the spam I have gotten in all the years ........ and I search and visit sites about darts more than most, .......


.... THERE HAS NOT BEEN ONE ITEM OF SPAM RELATED TO DARTS! Now don't get me wrong I hate spam as much as anyone, but it gave me pause to think.... why don't spamers send dart related spam? OK let's be clear about some basics; in general you will fing that dart sites don't normally set a lot of spyware cookies /software, and most spyware software programs are put onto computers by sites that do use spyware cookies /software. Most cookies do nothing more than slow down your computer, and track your websurfing habbits so they can send spam. Many spyware cookies track your movements on competing sites so they can you "unsolicited" counter offers. There are some spyware items that are in the class of “malware” that will log keystrokes and steal your passwords and credit card numbers, but that's more than what my story is about; if you think you have a problem with “malware” visit Security Forums for help. But back to my story.

So I must pose the question: “If I visit sites about printing one day and the next my mailbox is full of printing spam, why isn't my mailbox full of darts spam after visiting darts sites?” I've already established that the spyware software was at work on my computer, and my spam folder did have items about printing. Is it that spamers don't see darters as a significant market worth targeting? Could it be that dart gear manufactures are not high profile enough for spamers to resale / redistribute their products (despite the fact that darts are a good selling recreation /sport item)? Is it that Darts won't help you find your “life mate?” I'm sure that there are those that would argue that theory see entry:Darts + Love = wedding. Or is it just not exciting enough to read “Get a complementary set of Laser / Unicorn Darts?” I mean really I might take time to read an email that says: “Your Unicorn Eclipse board is waiting for you to claim it!”

I don't know the answer to why darts has escaped being a subject for spamers, but now that it's breeched my awareness I'll have to ponder it.....

Hmmmm..... I wonder if spamers in the UK target darters?

'01 Practice Routine - Phil The Power Taylor Forum

An interesting practice game posted in the Phil Taylor Forum

My wife and I have developed a twist on an old Burma Road game. After looking at several '01 out sheets that are on the internet, I have realized that the 9 most common target numbers for Triples and Doubles are the Bull, 20, 19, 18, 17, 16, 14, 12, and 8. 65% of all outs from 170 and down are of a combination of these numbers.

So we devised the following set up in our Burma Road games. List 8, 12, Double, 14, 16, Triple, 17, 18, 3 in a bed, 19, 20, and Bull down the chalkboard. Start at 50 points like the usual game. If you miss the target numbers then your score is cut in half. The kicker is that on Dbls, Trps, and 3 in a bed, you have to hit one of the target numbers instead of just any number.

By doing this for a couple of weeks my wife has improved in her 301 league from 26.7 points per round to 42.5 points per round.yeah

Could others give this a try and see if helps.

I'll have to give it a try first chance I get!
I normally play this game with cricket numbers as follows:
15,16
Any double on the board
17,18
Any triple on the board
19,20,
20,Any three in a bed
Bull

Now I will play both games practice, and I will change the "Any" to "use only the numbers in the list."

A bad darts joke...

Two darters at the Las Vegas open were warming up for a match when one accidentally tripped on the raised wooden oche, which caused a dart to fly out of his hand and into the forehead of his opponent. The opponent fell to the floor and did not move. Quickly getting his wits about him, the darter who tripped pulled out his cell phone and dialed 911.

The operator came on and said 'what is the nature of your emergency?' The darter replied 'I think I just accidentally killed someone! What do I do?'

The operator thought for a second and said, 'Goodness! Well go over and make sure he's really dead.'

Listening on the phone, the operator was startled by what sounded like two loud thumps followed by muffled moaning and then silence. In a few seconds the darter got back on the phone and said 'OK... now what do I do?'"

Heard any good ones lately? Most dart jokes seem to be bad ones, or old jokes with the words "darts player(s)" replacing the key subject(s)/ person(s) in the joke!

USA men's World Cup Results

In the singles John Kuczynski lost in the "last 8" (quarter finals) to Brazil's Mauricio Maia 2-4, and Ray Carver lost in the "last 16" to England's Andy Fordham 2-4.
In the pairs John K / Ray C lost to Rep. Ireland's O'Neill / Nolan 2-4 in the "last 32".

The men seem to have faced some very rough competition, but well done fellows!

Attitude is everything!

A great attitude is something that is truly underrated in many sports, and I must say I've enjoyed the overall great attitudes of steel-tip players. In our league (steel-tip) the “A” division teams regularly play the “B” division teams. Much of the time the “A” players have great attitudes and encourage the “B” player's, but on occasion I'll hear negative comments and excuses when they are beaten by a “B”player's. I think a lot of this comes from embarrassment about not having played their best darts, or maybe thinking they are stronger player's than they really are. Personally I know that any time you step to the line you can be beat; so always strive to bring your best game, and if you don't win at least be gracious and a good sport!

Trina Gulliver and Clare Bywaters (England) earned the Women’s Pairs World Cup Title. Defeating USA pairing of Stacey Bromberg and Marilyn Popp.

It's nice to see a strong showing by the women of the USA!

Dick van Dejk from the Netherlands became World Cup Singles Champion after he defeated Denmark’s Per Laursen 4 – 1.

Men’s Pairs
Raymond van Barneveld and Vincent van der Voort (Dutch) defeated Per Laursen and Brian Sorensen (Denmark)4 – 1 in the final.

Ladies Singles
Trina Gulliver (England) defending World Cup Ladies Singles Champion faced her Pairs partner in Clare Bywaters in the final. Bywaters won the match to become the new World Cup Ladies Singles Champion.


Youth Girl’s Singles
Carla Molema (Netherlands)face Tanya Thomas (South Africa) in the final. In the tiebreaking leg Molema hit a 116 out in 15 darts for the title.


Youth Boy’s Singles
Netherlands Jonny Nijs defeated England’s Ross Smith 3 – 1.

Youth Mixed Pairs
Jonny Nijs and Carla Molema (The Netherlands) played Roman Ariefdien and Tanya Thomas (South Africa). The Netherlands won the title with a 3 – 2 victory. Carla Molema hit a 16 out to win.
