Defending champion Martin Adams reached the semi-finals of the BDO World Darts Championship at Frimley Green with a dominant 5-1 win over Ross Smith on Thursday night.

Darts stars are heading for North Devon

ENGLAND darts captains and world champions Martin "Wolfie" Adams and Trina Gulliver will be in Bideford next month to play against 16 local hopefuls.

They will be appearing at the First In Last Out on May 28 and competing against the qualifiers from a series of local competitions. (full article...)

Bolton darter Lisa set for world bid

LOCAL darts player Lisa Ashton is celebrating after landing herself a place at the BDO World Championships.

The 38-year-old, who plays for the Lord Raglan in the Astley Bridge Darts League, will compete against seven other women from four countries in the prestigious event at the Lakeside.

Ashton qualified after winning the Holland Open earlier this month – beating three champions in the process.

DARTS: Gulliver faces battle to reclaim crown

Oxfordshire’s Trina Gulliver says she faces a real battle to win back her BDO Lakeside Women’s World Professional title at Frimley Green, starting this weekend.

Gulliver, 39, takes on debutant Lisa Ashton in the first round at 7.40pm on Saturday.

The seven-time world champion saw her run ended by Anastasia Dobromyslova in the 2008 final, but the Russian has now jumped ship to the rival PDC organisation. (full article...)

The last tournament of 2008 is over and the ranking positions finalised.



In the mens ranking Englands Scott Waites takes first place with Gary Anderson, Scotland, in second and Martin Adams, England, in third.



Francisca Hoenselaar, Netherlands, took first place in the ladies with Irina Armstrong, Russia, in second, and Englands Trina Gulliver in third. (full report...)

County aim to preserve their winning run

WARWICKSHIRE County Darts Organisation will be back in action in Division One of the Kaliber BDO Inter Counties Championships this weekend.

Canley Sports and Social Club, Coventry, will be the setting for the first home fixture of the season, with Dorset providing the opposition.

Warwickshire will be eager to continue the form they showed in their curtain-raiser at Hertfordshire, where they chalked up a great 23-16 victory.

Men’s A: Lee Harris, Noel Grant, Dave Harris, Tom McGlone, Tony Brown, Mick Gorst, Nigel Heydon, Mark Carter, Bob Nixon, Rob Hawker, Tom Ryan, Jim Norris.

Men’s B: Dave Clarke, Dave Crossingham, Colin Laffar, Prakash Jiwa, Mark Kane, Dave Atkins, Jamie Atkins, Ian McFarlane, Steve Dwyer, Martin Brown, Trevor Frost, Tom Dillon.

Reserves: Mark Sidgwick, Darren Swords, Chris Stokes.

Ladies A: Trina Gulliver, Sue Biddle, Viki Franklin,Lesley Newcombe, Caroline Pike, Donna Pinch.

* IT’ S week two in the Sheldon and District Winter League and even at this early stage only three of the 11 Premier Division teams remain unbeaten.

A 5-4 win at Mackadown Social saw Shirley RBL take pole position with Brook Meadow, who won 5-4 at Sheldon Dukes, one leg of average behind them.

Olton RBL, after a bye last week, opened their account with a 5-4 win at home to Saltley Amateur Gardeners and Olton are the other undefeated team.

Four teams are locked together on four points in Division One. Scanlons are in pole position after an 8-1 home win over Yardley Ex Flights.

In second are Sheldon Social, who also had an 8-1 win at Small Heath Gardeners Flights, then comes Shard End Social, who beat Shard End RBL Vikings 5-4.

Kingshurst Labour Club won 5-4 at Yardley Ex Colts to hold down the fourth place.

Custard House have moved into second place in Division Two after a 9-0 whitewash of Barley Mow. With one leg of average more than Custard House are Willclare Sports and Social, in top spot after beating Millhouse 6-3.

* IN the Pip Club League the Division One singles knockout was won by Globe Inn’s Phil Turner, who beat Bob Mills from the Glascote Club.

Adam Duffy (Winning Post) won the Division Two title, beating Sam Whittaker, from the Three Horse Shoes.

British Darts Open final

John Henderson won three sets on the trot to beat Gary Anderson 4-2 in a gripping British Darts Open final on Saturday evening at the Spa in Bridlington.

It was a vintage final that swung both ways and had the Setanta Sports 2 viewers stuck to their seats.

Henderson showed real character after going 2-1 down to win 4-2, hitting a double-ten at the finish to earn a deserved success.

Henderson got to the final by virtue of an easy win over Mareno Michels. The Huntly native was never troubled and won 3-0.

In the other semi, Martin Atkins was just edged out of it by Anderson, who won by the odd set in five.

Another title for Dee

FORMER Cumbria player Dee Bateman captured another major title last weekend when she won the BDO Red Dragon British Classic, beating England international Clare Bywaters, from Warwickshire, in the final.

Dee had beaten Staffordshire's Sherrie Dodd in their semi-final, while the runner-up had put out Debra Royal. Trina Gulliver had gone out in the quarter-finals. In-form Scot Gary Anderson won the men's event.

Adams clinched his first world title in January at the age of 50, while Gulliver clinched her seventh crown.

TICKETS are now on sale at the Canalside Centre, Huntworth, Bridgwater, for June's big darts spectacular involving world champions Martin "Wolfie" Adams and Trina Gulliver.

They will be taking on the cream of local players at the centre, formerly Hinkley Point Sports & Social Club, on Friday, June 16. Ladies Darts.com - Irina Armstrong wins Open Finland 2007

Open Finland 2007 was won this year by LDA member Irina Armstrong. Her name is now added to the trophy alongside previous winners Trina Gulliver and Francis Hoenselaar the founder members of the LDA. The weekend proved to be very good for Irina completing a hat-trick of wins, partnering Rob Tileman from Tilburg to win the blind draw couples, and also winning the ladies pairs with Tarja Salminen from Finland.

NORTHUMBERLAND'S Gary Robson was crowned the Manx king of darts after toppling world championship runner-up Phil Nixon 3-1 in a thrilling finale to this year's £20,000 three-day IoM Festival of Darts at the Villa Marina last weekend.
And there were more shocks in the women's championship as world champ and defending champion Trina Gulliver suffered a 3-2 reversal at the hands of tournament debutante Julie Gore from Wales.

Trina Gulliver wins the Dutch Open singles 2007 Print E-mail Last years winner, Anne Kirk from Scotland, was unfortunately unable to be there this year to defend her title. This years final was fought out between Trina and fellow english player Clare Bywaters. Trina, in her semi final, won from Anastasia Dobromyslova in a closely contested match 4 – 3. Shortly afterwards Clare won from Irina Armstrong 4 – 1.
