Dartoids World 6-8-2010
The Premier League Final “A bunch of the boys were whooping it up in the Malamute saloon” is the opening line of the poem by Robert Service titled “The Shooting of Dan McGrew.” Fast forward to May 23, 2010 and the Wembley Arena where a bunch of darts fans were ready to whoop it up for the 2010 Premier League Finals. Funny thing happened – a power outage delayed the event 24 hour’s. That held the crowd to only 2,000 which doesn’t include a nationwide TV audience. Next door at Wembley Stadium England was laying a 3-1 “green card check” on Mexico in a friendly prior to soccer’s World Cup coming in June. When things got going in the Arena “The Power” got going full blast.

Dartoids World - Dr. Darts, Trina Gulliver, and the "Brit and Yankee" Podcast!
# 289 04/04/2007
Good old boy Doctor of Darts, Patrick Chaplin, is at it again!
He has just today announced the pending publication of the first-ever book featuring a female darts player – seven-time world champion Trina Gulliver. Called “The Golden Girl – The Autobiography of the World’s Greatest Ladies’ Darts Player,” the book will certainly be popular among darts enthusiasts everywhere, and not just for the photographs.

Dartoids World Bob Elliott is one of the GOOD guys!
Sometimes I can’t start writing fast enough. This was the case when I learned about my old friend Bob Elliott.
Elliott and I go back to my early days in darts in the Cape Cod Dart League (CCDL). I was just beginning to venture beyond the comfort zone of “C” league play and into the intimidating world of blind draws.
My early experience was not good. Quite often if I drew one of the better shooters I was treated with disrespect. The added stress of trying my best to shoot well with someone who didn’t want to be my partner caused my darts to fly worse than normal. Regularly I headed home sorry that I’d gone out in the first place.

Could Cricket have saved the World Series of Darts?
# 286 02/28/2007
The question has been posed: Would the World Series of Darts have been successful had the choice of game been cricket instead of 501?
I agree that cricket is

I realize this may be a bit incircumspect but, what the hell – this is frickin’ Dartoid’s World, so I’m gonna just put it out there.
Had Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan been Jewish and Austin, Texas’ inventor Scott Harrison been alive 500 years ago, under the circumstances, a circumcised (OUCH!) Magellan might have circumnavigated the globe with a Circumluminator on board, enabling the crew to throw some 501 before they were attacked and killed by a horde of whacked-out Filipinos with spears.

Want to Swap your Wife?
# 285 02/27/2007
When word leaked out in October, 2005 that England’s Michael Davies – the bloke who brought us Who Wants to Be a Millionaire and Wife Swap – had just closed a deal to air the World Series of Darts, I thought, like, well, that’s pretty amazing.
An eight-part series about darts on ESPN! Holy crap!
A million dollar payday! It was a potential life-changing dream come true for some average Joe.
It could have changed the face of the sport in

Dartoids World Bobby George!!! # 282 02/01/2007
THAT'S THE WAY TO WRITE IT, The thing about Bobby George’s first book, Bobby Dazzler, My Story, is that you don’t need to read a review to decide whether or not you want to plunk down money to buy the book. Just as you know you gotta watch when George bounds on stage decked out like Elvis, dripping in jewelry, and carrying a candelabra, the sizzling Dazzler cover more sells the steak that follows.
There’s George, smiling, hand on chin...
Or is he smiling?

The Bloodshot Open # 281
01/16/2007
In February, 2003 – almost four years ago – I drove from Pennsylvania to Ohio for the fifth annual Columbus Darters Association (CDA) Bloodshot Open. What I remember most about the $5,000 tournament is the drive home. It’s taken me until now to get over the trauma.

While I had hoped business travel might coincide with the 13th staging of the Asia Pacific Cup in Kuala Lumpur in September, it was not to be. News reached me fast however and I was pleased to learn that my old Filipino friend Ramon Sabalboro just missed the quarter finals in the Men’s 501 Singles. Three Filipinos including Lourence Ilagan and Rizal Barellano made the final eight, testament yet again to the talent and depth of talent to be found on the archipelago.
As expected, New Zealand increased their winning streak to four and will be the odds on favorite to make it five when they host the tournament in 2008.

Good Places to Visit and Throw Darts
WELCOME to Dartoid’s World, the only column about darts that has been ranked three times consecutively in a row one time right after the other among the top causes of barfing.
Today’s subject is my recent three-week 28,000-mile darts journey from Tampa, Florida to Thailand, Cambodia, Korea, Los Angeles and someplace called Pasco in southeast Washington where I threw a challenge match and met a darter named Shawnee Jumping Turtle.
My first stop was Bangkok - there had just been a coup here so I thought it would be a good place to visit and throw darts. Dartoid’s World
