When I opened my eyes it was dark. The train was trickling down the track with that familiar click; most passengers had disembarked somewhere between London and the dwindling number of depots between the famous city and the eastern coast of Great Britain. The port of Harwich –and my overnight Stena Line ferry to Holland–was just ahead. I was about to enter my seventh country in three weeks.
I was tired from two days of high speed sightseeing through Wales and England, but nothing picks me up like the thought of a boat ride. This one would be like a poor man’s cruise, including a sleeping cabin, while I floated across the English Channel to the Netherlands.

One might think that watching a Conga line of eight players throw at the bulls-eye for ten hours straight in an attempt to break a world record that was out of reach after the first hour or two would be a sure formula for some shut-eye. It wasn’t. Not on May 5th at Rob’s Billiards and Sports Lounge in Ft. Worth, Texas.
Possibly this is because Americans know Brits are shits and we’re certain that even though we did fall short of their record we’ll top it eventually. We’re winners not whiners.
But more likely it’s because of the song.

Global Darts - UK Open Qualifier 7, Birmingham - by Charis

The UK Open Qualifer weekend at the beginning of May in Birmingham was the last chance fort he PDPA players to qualify for the tournament in June in Bolton. So I had decided to travel there and not to miss the opportunity. I had hoped a little bit for some nice spring days in England - well, it was of course spring and most of the time bright sun shine but it was rather cold most of the time. And it was quite cold in the venue too. One didn't notice at the beginning when the hall was full but the more players left the cooler it got and around board 16 there was a distinct draught. I had enough warm cloth with me but it can't have been agreeable for all the players playing in short sleeves.

 UK Open Qualifier 8, Birmingham
On Sunday morning after a full English breakfast I decided to explore the canals further and walked along them to the Jewellery Quarter where you can find one jeweller beside the other. There were not many people around on Sunday morning but it was quite interesting to see some nice old houses there. I walked back through the city centre where then all the shops had opened.

#Darts are my passion - Siphamandla - The Swazi Observer

He is confident that he will go a long way as a darts player.
He explains that one of the reasons he chose the sport is because it is relaxed and also good for the brain.
“Unlike other sports, darts is played in a relaxed environment and one does not have to sweat it out. It’s a sport that requires thinking and helps stimulates the brain,” he explains.

Although he adores the sport, the aspiring High Court judge mentions that the standard of darts in the country is very poor hence there is a lot to be done to improve it.

3/22/12 Diary of a #Darts Player with Andy Relf - Other Sports - Sussex Express

LAST Friday our team from the Wheel at Burwash had a Heathfield League match against the Cross in Hand team that we had beaten the previous week in the Seamer Cup Final.
This had the makings of a revenge match for the Cross in Hand, but our team had different ideas on that one.

#darts World Record Attempt - February 1, 2012 Dartoid's World

Beginning at noon on May 5, Rob’s will be the site of the First Annual Charity Bull-a-Thon and World Record attempt. Eight Americans – Chris Allen, Chris Helms, Les Twinam, Andrea Taylor, Byron Dossey, Davis Snider, Connley Litton, and Gordon Goodwin – will attempt to break the Guinness World Record for "The most Bull’s Eyes by a Team in 10 Hours" that was set in January of 2011 by a team in England, spearheaded by former world champion Bob Anderson.
The record currently stands at 1,505 double bulls. Yep, the little red bit.

Let's see . . . there are a couple of country songs about pool. "The Baron," by Johnny Cash, for one.
Surely there must be a tune about one of the more popular and up-and-coming American pastimes.
If not, there will be soon. Blueberry Hill, a prominent recording label, is conducting a national songwriting contest about darts. The idea is to cut a hit record and have it on the jukebox of every dart bar in the country.

The European Championships Aug. 3, 2011 Dartoids World Article #darts

Today, with his column The European Championships, the Old Dart Coach contemplates the return to the predictable "order" of life at the upper echelons of the darting world:

There is supposed to be “order” in the world. While people may not like it, gripe about it or approve of it they are comfortable and somewhat accepting. When that order is disturbed there is a malady that hangs over the populace.

The sun rises in the east and sets in the west. Okay, good idea. Clowns are elected to public office, spend every penny the government collects, then raise taxes for more money, blame the taxpayer for not paying enough and then said clowns are expected to solve the problem they caused.

Darts ain’t an Olympic shoo-in – there’s (plastic) competition!

They call him the “Dragon” and he’s a former world champion. He has basked in the glory of his ‘sport,’ one that some describe as “just the right mix of skill and intellect.” Growing older and with a family, he is still highly regarded, puts in the practice and travels frequently in his quest to add another world championship to his resume. And he’s currently one of the most well known and popular promoters of his game.

But who is the Dragon? And with recent rumblings of a push to see his ‘sport’ added as a demonstration activity at the 2012 London Olympics one must also ask: Why the hell is the Olympics in London?

Was Toledo booked?

This past weekend those who worship at the Temple of Tungsten were, as they say down south, in Hog Heaven. They had arrived in nirvana. They were the dog that arrived in heaven to find a “thousands miles of telephone poles with a belly full of pee.” It just doesn’t get any better. If able to receive Sky TV or even Justin TV on computers worshipers were treated to three days of the “best dog-gone TV darts” in the history of the world. The event, the Speedy Hire UK Open, had total price money of £500,000 with £200,000 on the line at Reebok Stadium in Bolton for the 172 who “toed the oche.”
What qualified this event as the “best TV darts” ever was that it had everything of a great TV show? It had heroes, villains, great darts from great players, lousy darts from great players, brilliant comebacks, great collapses, maybe the changing of the guard and of course heartwarming stories. In short a “one off.”

On the day of the tsunami many dart players in Japan were on their way to Sendai where on this day a big tournament was supposed to take place. Many were affected by the disaster, not all were as lucky as Tsuyoshi und Miho Kadokawa and two of their friends.

Dartoid's World - The Diary of an Unhealthy #Dart Throwing Slug. Week Three of Nine.

Today is Valentine’s Day and I am traveling. I’m on a US Airways flight as I write – headed to Bethesda and then Ukfield, East Sussex for some business and darts. Yesterday I gave my wife a special Valentine’s Day present so all is okay. I gave her a chocolate covered vacuum.

The infamous Dave “Boy” Green has been giving me crap again at the Stars of Darts forum. Green has made a name for himself with his mouth – by challenging people to money games and losing his arse. He’s such a silly little boy. Over and over he sets himself up to be pulverized. Probably he got is arse kicked at conkers too.

Tough ask - Australia's next darts champion

He may not have won the most recent world title, but Phil 'The Power' Taylor has had a stranglehold on the sport of darts for the better part of two decades.

And the question after closely watching the most recent World Darts Championship is: why?

Here, surely, is a sport tailor-made for an Aussie to take the mantle as the world's best. Simon "the Wizard" Whitlock went close to unseating Taylor in 2010 as the world's undisputed king when he made the final of the world title match.

While he fell at the last hurdle, the Sydney-born Aussie has the makings of a future champ.
