The Viking looks to rampage

Former world darts champion Andy Fordham is hoping to boost his flagging confidence at the World Masters this weekend.

‘The Viking’ has lost 15 stone since collapsing at last year’s World Championship and is suffering from cirrhosis of the liver following years of alcohol abuse.

The coastal town of Bridlington will be rocking despite the freezing conditions and Fordham is looking for a better performance than 12 months ago, where he made an early exit. (full story...)

How darts star hit health bullseye

Professional darts player Andy 'The Viking' Fordham was a man hitting all the wrong numbers.

Thirty one - the number of stones he weighed; 23 - the bottles of lager he drank daily; seven - the number of takeaways he had each week; and one - the liver he was rapidly destroying.

It came to a head last year when he collapsed at a tournament, prompting doctors to warn him to change his ways or face certain death.

But now after losing 17st (108kgs) and stopping drinking Andy is stepping up to the challenge.

Andy Fordham is hoping to resurrect his darts career at the World Masters after doctors took him off the emergency waiting list for a liver transplant.

Kent's 2004 BDO world champion, 46, is suffering from cirrhosis of the liver after years of alcohol abuse.

But after losing 15 stone since collapsing at the 2007 World Championship, the operation has been postponed for at least three years.

"It'd be nice to get on the stage a few more times," he told BBC Radio Kent.

"If I can get back to a decent standard that will be a massive battle for me and it'd be great." (full story & interview...)
