This was a match that showed spotty play by Thornton, and Lewis was able to take great advantage with great finishing, he had 3 tom+, strong scoring. Thornton did show flashes of quality, but not often enough to apply real pressure to Lewis. Lewis; "I hit the right shots at the right time."

It’s double tops for ex-master Thornton

The former World Master Robert Thornton joined an exclusive group last weekend when he won both days’ championships at Irvine in Scotland.

Only the magical Taylor and Adrian Lewis had previously won on both days of a PDC weekend so it was fitting that the Scot should do so on home soil. (full article...)

ROBERT THORNTON claimed back-to-back PDC Pro Tour titles with a 6-2 victory over Dennis Priestley in the Blue Square UK Open Scottish Regional Final on Sunday.

Ayrshire ace Thornton was victorious in Saturday's Scottish Players Championship before taking another £6,000 title the following day. (full article...)

WADE FALTERS AS THORNTON WINS ON HOME SOIL
7 March 2009

It was James Wade’s first PDC Pro Tour event of the year but the World No.2 bowed out in the quarter-finals of the Players Championship tournament in Irvine.

Wade lost 6-5 to Dennis Priestley, with ‘The Machine’ coming from 5-2 down to force the decider. He then missed one dart for the match only to see Priestley win it with a 103 finish. (full article...)

Darts: Scots rookie Robert Thornton out to spring PDC World Championship upset

ROBERT THORNTON reckons he can cause a major upset and lift the PDC World Championship crown.

The Ayrshire arrowsmith is preparing for his first appearance in the £740,000 Alexandra Palace showpiece and gets his campaign underway against Wayne Jones tomorrow night.
