from the email stack... The old-timers’ dart reunion is coming up fast

From:

Craig D.

The old-timers’ dart reunion is coming up fast—just two weeks from now!

So if you haven’t already decided whether to come, now’s the time to make up your mind. The first notice for this went out on Jan. 10 in the hopes that May 22 would become a red-letter day on your calendar and other events could be planned around it.

The reunion is set for Saturday, May 22 from noon-closing at Paddy O’s Pub (formerly Looney’s) in Torrance. And if you think you’ll just catch up at next year’s Las Vegas Open, that tournament will no longer take place since both Tom and Della Fleetwood have passed away. Crew members were advised of this recently by Alex Casillas, who was a long-standing partner in the tournament.

I’ve had more than 100 people say they will be there, so don’t miss this opportunity to mingle with old friends and maybe even make some new friends. There are some folks coming from great distances, so if you’re in Southern California it might be worth making just a short trek down a freeway or two for the day.

If you have not emailed me in the last two weeks about the reunion, then please confirm whether or not you’ll be there and whether you’re bringing along a significant other, wife, husband, kid, or whoever. That way Vicki Williams will have the right amount of food—and beer—for the masses!

Bring photos of your younger self (and your pals), wear a dart shirt if you can, bring memorabilia, darts, patches and pins for trading or whatever you can find from the good ol’ days! There will be prizes!

And forward this letter to anyone who qualifies as an old-timer (those who played darts prior to 2000) who may not already be aware of the event.

See you there!

It's on and you must respond to Dusie with a yay or nay so he can make an accurate estimate to determine the size & location for the venue.....

Hi:

Could you please send the following message out to your distribution list of old-timers again? Just want to make sure anyone who hasn't responded has another chance. plans are moving forward. Message is below.

Dusie

Dear old-timers:

Initial response to the idea of an old-timers dart reunion has been good enough that it will happen.

It will be on Sat., May 22. Time TBD

I’m not on Facebook, nor is Sandi, so we don’t see those conversations about this reunion. So, if you’d like to attend but have not yet replied to me directly, please just drop me a line at dusie32"at"gmail"dot"com and give it a thumbs-up. That will give me a better head count to use for estimating food and adult beverages we need to have on hand.

Please reply by Feb. 10! Thanks.

from the email stack... To our fellow old-time dart players:

To our fellow old-time dart players:

We’ve been dropping like flies lately and if somebody doesn’t have an old timers’ reunion soon it seems like there will only be half a dozen people left that qualify for one. One of the most common comments overheard at funerals of past dart players recently is “Gee, it seems like the only time we see each other anymore is at some one’s funeral.” On Jan. 7, we lost Della Fleetwood—one of the people who hoped to organize a reunion but just didn’t get to it. The Las Vegas Open will go on Jan. 29-31 --- but that still leaves a darters reunion undone.

So, let’s start thinking about it. I’m suggesting a couple of potential reunion dates for old timers dart league members and tournament players from the last century. May 1st or May 22nd, 2010. (Short-timers from the new millennium are NOT invited unless they are the spouse, child or grandchild of a qualified old-timer).Old timer refers to an era, not a person’s age.

Seems we first need to figure out how many are interested. If only 30 people would show up, 1 very large garage or average size home would do. If 300 people responded positively to such a reunion, 1 large trophy house or small mansion would be needed. Other possibilities could be a Moose or Elks Lodge, a union hall or private club with its own liquor license or a large dart friendly bar. Location should be in central L.A. basin or northern/central Orange County.

Photo I.D.’s are not required, but an old dart related picture showing you with hair, or before it turned gray would be amusing to see. Also, all old dart shirts that are wearable would be considered appropriate.

Please forward this to anybody and everybody who might be interested in attending and/or hosting. These people can reply to Dusie at dusie32"at"gmail.com by mid-February and I’ll happily supply all those names/emails/phone numbers to whoever wants to organize it or host it! My house doesn’t qualify either by size or location as party central.
