#Darts world champion pushing for sport's inclusion in 2020 Olympics

LONDON – The sport of darts has launched a remarkable bid to become the next event accepted into the Olympic Games – and it's gained the surprising support of Prince Harry.
International darts chiefs have expanded their professional tour around the world in recent years, and the game's power base is no longer restricted to the United Kingdom and parts of mainland Europe.
Darts' 15-time world champion Phil Taylor is leading the charge for Olympic ratification, backed by Barry Hearn -- the promoter who turned darts from primarily a pub game with a small tournament scene into a sport where leading players can earn nearly $1 million per season. Prince Harry, who is a huge fan and has previously attended the world championships in central London, is also strongly in favor.

This is an effort to raise funds for Karen Mack Lawrence and Richard Lawrence. I just learned that Richard is in Long Beach Memorial hospital with cancer. Richard is one of the first people I met when I moved to Orange County, California 15 years ago. He is an outgoing, fun, caring and all around great guy. He has been a huge supporter for steel tip darts in southern California for many many years. He is a former board member for the Pacific Darts Association, a former member of the SCDA and a current Royal Hawaiian All Star Darting Association member.

This is a Hawaiian / Luau themed event, so wear your Hawaiian shirts, play some darts, eat lots of food, give generously, and have fun to honor Richard and all of the laughter, love and friendship he has shared with you throughout the years!

Escondido's Newman finds sport to be a dartform - #darts article

Golfers call it "the yips," an affliction that causes a normally steady putter to suddenly lose all control of his flat stick. In baseball circles, it's sometimes referred to as "the thing," and former major league second baseman Steve Sax can testify that losing the ability to make the short throw from his position to first base was as frustrating as it was inexplicable.

Escondido's J.D. Newman knows the feeling. A little more than a year ago, he came down with a debilitating case of "dartitis."

Newman, a top-level amateur dart thrower who has been playing the popular pub game all his life, suddenly couldn't have hit a bullseye if it were the size of a basketball rim. For someone who enters competitions nearly every weekend, it was serious as if he had suddenly forgotten how to drive his car or tie his shoes.

Dino M. Zaffina's Attorney Asks Judge for Restraining Order -- Against His Own Client

Pity Robert Racine.
The attorney, who is based in La Crescenta, has been representing Dino M. Zaffina in his battle with the Southern California Darts Association -- which began when the darts lovers failed to include Zaffina's middle initial in a write-up of their scores, and somehow resulted in Zaffina filing papers to take over the organization's legal incorporation. The two entities have been battling over the darts association name ever since.
Zaffina may now have to do it without a lawyer.
