Dartoid's Column 5-17-2010

Greetings!

It should come as no surprise that Patrick Chaplin’s more than decade-long research earned him the first and only Ph.D. “in darts” from Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge in 2006 – and darts enthusiasts everywhere are in for an indulgence now that a popular treatment of Chaplin’s dissertation is available on the market.

Chaplin’s dissertation-turned-treatise, Darts in England, 1900-1939 – A Social History (Manchester University Press, 2009), is -

Planet Darts - Bob Of All Trades...Master Of Darts!

Bob Of All Trades...Master Of Darts! IF a modern-day author were to look to write a second 'This Sporting Life' novel, they could do much worse than looking back over the career of Bob Anderson. The 59-year-old has enjoyed considerable success in three different sports since his days as a schoolboy javelin champion, and has even gained a single-figure golfing handicap in recent years.

BBC SPORT: Darts - Bobby George comp

Bobby George comp Bobby George The King of Bling We had hundreds of entries in our competition to win copies of Bobby George's autobiography Bobby Dazzler. The book tells the "rags to bling" story of the Eastender who left school barely able to read and write, picked up a set up darts for the first time aged 30 and within three years had won a world title.

BOBBY DAZZLER
my story by Bobby George

After a tough childhood, helping his imposing dad in the garden, looking after his pigeons, Bobby George left school early barely able to read or write. A life in the building trade – digging the Victoria Line on the London underground and laying concrete and granite floors – or minding Essex pub doors in the post-Krays era seemed to beckon.

That is until, after a day’s fishing off southern Ireland in the summer of 1976, a game of pub darts got off the ground. By the end of the night Bobby had taken on and beaten the whole pub. He was a natural. He has never really looked back: three years later he won the News of the World Championship.
