#darts on facebook.... can't see post by some of your friends?

Have you noticed that you are only seeing updates and posts in your news feed from the same few people lately? Have you also noticed that when you post things like status messages, photos and links, only the same circle of people are commenting and you are not hearing from any others on your friends list that perhaps you used to?

...The problem is that a large portion of people on your Friends list can no longer see anything you ......post! Here's why:

...The "New Facebook" installed a new news feed setting that by default is automatically set to show posts from *ONLY* those people with whom you've recently interacted, or interacted the most over the couple of weeks just prior to when people started switching to the "new profile" format. Therefore, for both business and personal pages, unless you and your friends/fans commented on one another's posts within those couple of weeks, you are now invisible to them and they are invisible to you!!

HERE'S THE FIX:

On your "News Feed" home page, click the "Most Recent" title on the right of the News Feed, then click on the drop down arrow beside it to show the drop-down menu and select "Edit Options." Click on "Show Posts From" and change the setting to "All Of Your Friends and Pages." Another way to do it is to access the "Edit Options" link at the very bottom of the Facebook homepage on the right.

(Note: Business pages do not have a news feed. Owners of business pages should adjust the settings on their personal accounts.)

The good news is:

You can now view the posts and updates of all of your friends and fans again.

The bad news is:

**YOU** ARE STILL INVISIBLE to a large portion of your friends on your friends list. If you want to re-establish contact, you will need to get the word out to ALL of your friends. You can do that by inviting them to this "event," or by creating an event of your own, so they can read this news and adjust their news feed setting also.


To invite your friends:

Click on "Attending" at the top of this event invitation and then you will see "Select Guests to Invite" off to the upper left corner. This event is public so every one of your friends who logs onto Facebook can view it, and even the friends who can't see your posts WILL see the event invitation. You can also tweet about it, create a blog post, or send out an email to all your friends in multiple mail-groups of 20 friends each (maximum) to reach them all.

I really hadn't intended dragging this league stuff out into three parts, but that's precisely what's happened! There are a few other facts – and little quirks, simply associated with league matches – that you may find interesting.

I know that some leagues in the U.S. do this, but it seems that very few rely on an open draw for the evening's games; many rely on the captains choosing who plays who, usually dependent on ability. In Britain, most draw for opponents, although sometimes they play “pairs (or fours) across the board”. All that means is that the pairings are based on position within the team - 1 plays 1, 2 plays 2 etc. This is most common in fours and pairs, and is rarely used for singles. It's called “across the board” as the teams are invariably written up on the chalkboard.

Since I published the first episode of this particular blog, I've had to answer plenty of questions about English leagues. However, I think I'll have an even greater grilling after this! I've gone through some of the basic differences between leagues each side of the pond, but this one is surely the most startling; for Americans, anyway...

We (Americans, that is) know that virtually all leagues in this country are based on player classification, with players being segregated according to their league ratings. One of the problems with that system is that it's almost impossible to compare ratings between different leagues, cities etc. That's because everyone has their own weird way of arriving at their ratings.

Given that, for some bizarre reason, the PDC has not yet recognised my writing talents and decided to pay me (or at least expense me) to travel to all their non-televised events and do write-ups for them - if anyone from the PDC is reading this: hint, hint... :o) - I shall have to find some way of filling the barren wasteland between televised events with stuff to blog about.

Taylor Triumphs ... But Is It Too Predictable?

And Phil Taylor's done it again.

Not only winning the UK Open Finals over the weekend (broadcast on Sky Sports) but setting a new world record for the highest average ever in a televised darts match. A spectacular 118.3 average during his 9-0 win over Kevin Painter.

What was disappointing with the tournament was how his opponents caved in while playing him. With the exception of Simon Whitlock and for a time Denis Ovens, everyone else collapsed like a pack of cards.

Now you might disagree, but I reckon I’ve been giving my readers a bit too easy a time of late. My last few uniBlogs have tended to be fairly benevolent offerings, discussing comparatively straightforward topics like barrel and shaft materials. Legends on tour

Last night saw the We Love Darts team head for the Pavilion in Bath to enjoy a night of top entertainment with the legends of the game – namely Bobby George, Eric Bristow and John Lowe.

MC Duncan “Chase Me” Novell got the evening started in his own unique way, and darts fans turned out in their droves to watch the masters at work, and play a leg against their heroes.
