Teenager defeats #darts champion in aid of charity - Charity fund-raisers - Worthing Herald

A TEENAGE darts enthusiast stepped up to the oche for a marathon 12 hours in aid of charity – and still had the energy to defeat one of the game’s elite.
Connor Levett, 13, of Irene Avenue, Lancing, took part in the marathon alongside former Aston Villa footballer, Andy Caspali. It was held at the TMG Social Club on Sompting Road, Worthing, at the end of last month, in aid of disabled East Preston youngster Iona-May Thorne.
Competitions were held alongside the marathon, with the winners and crowd having the chance to play PDC player, Bob Anderson, in the evening exhibition.

Guinness World Record #darts event this weekend

In January last year a team of eight darts players from the Reading and Wokingham area set a new official Guinness World Record by hitting 1,505 bullseyes in 10 hours.

This weekend a group of players in Texas will attempt to beat the record.

To give our American cousins a bit of friendly competition, the original and current world record holders will be staging their own, unofficial world record event. Both events will start and finish at the same time and abide by the exact same rules.

We had hoped to set up a skype video link between the two events so each could see how their 'opposition' were getting on. Unfortunately though the team in America has not been able to set up the technology on their end. However, I will be posting regular updates on progress to The Dartboard.co.uk for anyone interested.

Our event will raise money for The Royal British Legion. If you live in the area, please come along and lend us your support. The venue is the Royal British Legion Club, Woodlward Close, Winnersh, Reading. Alternatively you can make a donation securely online at: http://www.justgiving.com/bullseyechallenge

#darts from the email stack... Trenton NJ, annual charity dart event - April 9, 2011

Hey everyone -

I am pleased to announce that the Greater Trenton Dart League has partnered with the Make A Wish Foundation of NJ for our 6th annual Darts for Dreams dart-a-thon on April 9th, 2011 at Cook Athletic Association in Trenton, NJ. So far, we have collected and donated over $65,000 to the charity in our first five years.

If anyone is in the area, please consider coming out and attending. It's a fun event where everyone's a winner and no one's a loser.

This is not a tournament. You don't need to be there for the start, or stay until the end. The doors open at noon, and we start shooting at 1 PM.

There is a donation at the door of $10. Then, for a $5 entry, you shoot 51 darts for high score. You can shoot 1 time, 5 times, 50 times, it doesn't matter much to me. The high scorers each hour will receive a cash prize.

Throughout the day, we'll have raffles, a 50/50 and a silent auction full of merchandise collected by our sponsors and donors.

If anyone is interested in helping out buy making a donation, buying an ad for your league or business, just email me.

We will also be selling $5 raffle tickets between now and the event. The winning tickets will be drawn at the event itself. The prizes are a 50" Plasma TV, an Apple iPad and an Apple iPod Touch. If you want to buy tickets, let me know and we'll figure out the exchange. If you win, shipping costs are on you of course.

Thanks everyone - and please spread the word, particularly if you're in the area.

PDC picks a charity to back

#DARTS legend Phil Taylor  has thrown his backing behind a charity's bid to create the world record for the largest number of people playing the sport at the same time.

...

And Phil is urging darts players from North Staffordshire and South Cheshire to get involved.
The current world number one said: "Each year the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) picks a charity to back and this year it is supporting SignHealth.
"When I was asked if I would help to promote the event and give it my backing I was only too happy to help.
"Darts is a very popular sport among deaf people because it's one of the few where you don't rely on being able to hear around you, like you have to in football or rugby...

Charity Darts Marathon This Week

Charity Darts Marathon This WeekWe all know how popular darts is across the Island, so little wonder that someone hoping to raise cash for a very worthy cause has come up with the idea of a 24 hour darts marathon.

Yes folks, a 24 hour darts marathon.

The event is being organised in aid of the Breast Cancer Campaign and is hoping to raise cash and awareness for the campaign.

Whether you plan to take part or spectate, go along for the 24 hours or just for an hour or two, this should be an entertaining event.

If you fancy taking part or want to find out more call Marion on 857004 and don’t forget to say where you heard about it. (story source...)
