JAMES WADE will begin the defence of his Sky Poker World Grand Prix against Tony Eccles next month, while Phil Taylor meets Ronnie Baxter at the Citywest Hotel.

Wade defeated Terry Jenkins to claim the Dublin title last October, and will open up this year's event on Monday October 6 against qualifier Eccles, who will be making his debut in the double-start tournament. (full article...)

World champion darts player Eric Bristow challenges ten Baughurst dart players

WORLD champion darts player Eric Bristow challenged local players to a game in Baughurst on Thursday (October 2), to mark the closure of a leisure centre bar. The Crafty Cockney, as he is known, visited the Hurst Leisure Centre, Brimpton Lane, in commiseration over the closure of the bar where pool and darts teams regularly played league matches. Mr Bristow won his first world championship in 1980, defeating fellow Londoner Bobby George and so began a decade's worth of domination, retaining his title in 1981 and winning it again in 1984, 1985 and 1986. The champion darts player challenged ten plucky people in the crowd. He said of his opponents: “It’s a bit nerve wracking for them, especially with their friends watching them.” The decision to close the 11-year-old bar yesterday (Friday) was made by the Hurst governing body to develop the facility into a coffee and juice bar in line with current national strategy for schools. Bar manager Phil Capel said that the decision had not taken into account the wider interests of the community and would affect four pool and three darts teams. "The pool teams included an all girls team which has had to fold now they have no-where to play," said Mr Capel. Josh Delaney aged 19 of Huntsmore Road, Tadley, said: “There is nowhere else in Tadley where you’ve got the facilities that we’ve got here.” Baughurst resident Danny Crouch, aged 21 of Wolverton Road, said: “You can’t slate the juice bar yet because it has not started, so it’s 50/50. “But it’s a shame that the bar is going. It’s the only thing that brings people up here.” Mr Bristow said the game of darts was not suffering from the closure of pubs across the country but it was a shame that pubs were shutting. “All the dart teams will move from one pub to another so there will still be as many darts players, they’ll just move to another pub." The whole campus is invited to this year's LOCKS OF LOVE event at The Gathering Place. There will be free food, drinks and HAIRCUTS.

The event will be from 7 p.m. to midnight on Oct. 17.

There will be GRAND PRIZE for the girl and guy who donate the most hair.

Hair must be 6 inches or longer.

There will also be a billiards and darts tournament, as well as an open mic hour and a prize raffle with generous gifts from local businesses.

DARTS legend Dennis Priestley is happy to be back on the big stage after his latest battle with the Big C.

The double world champ — diagnosed with prostate cancer last year — will play in the Sky Poker World Grand Prix in Dublin from Monday despite just finishing an intense 20-day radiotherapy treatment.

Hair-raising effort puts darts team on right target

AN Easter Ross darts team who have had a few close shaves on the oche in the past have hit the bull's-eye with their latest hair-raising effort.

The Station Hotel's darts team, who play in the Easter Ross and District Darts League, had their heads shaved in support of one of their players, Willie MacRae, who was receiving chemotherapy. They've raised £1,511 for Macmillan Nurses at Raigmore Hospital in the process. (full article...)

I began the week out in Johannesburg in South Africa and will end it in Dublin, via a brief stop-off back in Stoke for a couple of days!

When he pulls the dart back from aiming position, he circles it with all of his fingers, therefore leading to speculation that the routine with the little finger was worthless to his throw. DARTS Beat that

Former World and Masters Champion Andy Beaton was the star guest at the Hampton & District Thursday Darts League awards night.

He dished out prizes to title winners Old Red Lion Staines (Premier), RBL Teddington (First Division), Teddington Con Club (Second Division), The Griffin Brentford (Third Division), Dog & Partridge Staines B (Fourth Division) and Woodlands Tavern Isleworth (Fifth Division), as well as a host of individual players awards.

Graham Hollis, of Sunbury RBL B, threw the most 180s in the Premier with eight maximum scores, the same amount as RBL Teddington's Paul Fouracre in the First Division.

Rising Sun Hampton Hill C's Colin Thorne topped the charts in the Second with six 180s, but Sam Costello of The Griffin Brentford topped the lot with 13 in the Third.

Dave Tero took the honours in the Fourth with five maximums, while Woodlands' Jason Hill and Sussex Arms Twickenham's Mark Ginger shared the plaudits in the Fifth with two each.

There were also impressive tallies for Teddington Social Club B's Tony Tomkins and The Griffin Brentford's Steve Boyle,who threw seven each; for RBL Sunbury pair Phil Watham and Kevin Davies, who notched six 180s each; and Bedfont Sports' Tim Hester, who chalked up five.

Highest record check-outs, meanwhile, were recorded by Phil Watham in the Premier (161), White House Hampton's Tony Wilkie in the First (170), Spelthorne Sports' Mark Heyhoe in the Second (170), The Griffin Brentford's Alan Branch in the Third (131), Dave Tero in the Fourth (150) and Metro Water Board (Donna)'s Gary Knight in the Fifth (150). Kevin MacGregor (Seaview) was the star with a 3-0 win against A. Robertson, while Andrew Mowat and Calum Shearer (Seaview) pulled out all the stops in the pairs, winning it against the odds.

In the ladies' competitions, Blackstairs won 8-0 in their opening fixture, while the Town and County Club, led by Patsy Craigie, triumphed over Sinclair Bay "1".

Tensions rise as players scrap it out
The Coachman pub hosted the 14th week of the Premier Darts League and with the end drawing near every player is fighting for their place, as the top 16 players will play top professional Peter ‘One Dart’ Manely in an exhibition match on Friday, December 5 at the Coachman.
As well as this there will be £500 prize money and trophies up for grabs for the top league positions and there was some tense but excellent games as all players scrapped for their points. S Rice and D Grimson both claimed all 6 points from 6 to stay in first and second positions respectfully. (full article...)

Well, it's that time of year again. The Seaside Highland Games is on for the weekend of October 11 and 12, and the Ventura County Dart Association will be giving away another iPod to a lucky shooter. As last year, the participants cannot be regular dart players, and must be adults (18 years and up) to participate. (See below for more information). The difference this year is that we will also be hosting a full dart tournament, with a prize fund of $5,000+.

This first-time event is being held at the Ventura County Fairgrounds, 10 West Harbor Blvd., Ventura, Ca. 93001, in the Santa Cruz Hall on October 11^th and 12^th 2008. This event is being held in conjunction with the Seaside Highland Games which is celebrating its sixth year.

Match Play starts at 10:45 am Saturday and Sunday. Events run until 6:00 pm. Registration for each event closes 20 min before event start time. This event is open to all dart players age 18 and over. Age verification will be strictly adhered to, and there will be 10 men’s and women’s events open to all.

The event fee schedule ranges from $15.00 - $35.00 per event, depending on event type. These fees are in addition to the gate fee and parking fee for the Seaside Highland Games. Interested participants may visit www.vcda.org for event flier and pre registration form.

In addition, for the non-dart players, there will be a chance to win an iPod! Each contestant will throw three darts at the board. The highest score at the end of the weekend will win the iPod! (This event also restricted to adults, 18 and over.)

The VCDA is dedicated to promoting the sport of darts throughout the county of Ventura and neighboring cities and counties of southern California. Conducting a dart tournament at the Seaside Highland games is one way of promoting dart activities, as well as introducing the sport to the general public.
