2010 #Darts Clan Challenge
This past weekend we held our Gold Coast Shootout III Dart Tournament, and one of our latest ideas, the Highland Games Darts Clan Challenge, got a little press in the local newspaper.

This year the Ventura County Dart Association, which is presenting Gold Coast Shootout III in conjunction with the Highland Games, has added the Darts Clan Challenge. The 70 clans that have gathered for the games are invited to form three-person dart-throwing teams to earn awards and bragging rights.

Our tournament is part of the Seaside Highland Games http://www.seaside-games.com/ so the event is geared towards drawing non-dart players into the Dart Hall, helping them to understand more about the game of darts, and get them to compete.
Clan Blair won the first "Darts Clan Challenge" and will be listed on the perpetual plaque.

Gold Coast Shootout #I. $5,000+ Dart Tournament - ADO Sanctioned
Well the tournament is over, all the gear has been taken down and stowed. Now it's time to take a look at how things went, and get the results out and think of the way froward for next year. Event results and a write up and pictures will be posted soon....

Found this email posted below on a site and thought I would pass along to remind everyone to get their entries in. This runs the same as the QM, so if you want to get free entry into the games, you must pre-register.
Sadly, JK and I will be missing this inaugural event as we will be in Austin, Texas for the US Team Nationals. But I would like to encourage everyone to attend, as I have been working with the great gents in the Ventura league and this has been a long journey for them to get this going. I would hope that the great people of SoCal could step up and make this first effort for them a great success!
Also, as an added note, last year JK and I took the Amtrak train to Santa Barbara and we noticed that Amtrak has a stop and the site for this event. So if you want to skip the driving, check out the train! It was $54 each round trip for us and well worth the price!

Just a reminder that the Ventura Dart Association are hosting their very first ADO sanctioned dart tourney coming up on the weekend of October 11. There is a deadline for preregistration which will get you into the festival for free. The deadline for pre sign ups is Sept 30th so I strongly encourage you to go to our website at www.sbdarts.org and click on “Tourneys” to download the flier for the event. You need to sign up for at least 2 events for both days to get a festival pass.
I really hope to see a strong showing from the Santa Barbara Dart Association to show support to Ventura for putting on this event. There are sure to be the best players in Southern California at this event and it should be a great time for everyone.

You Named it WHAT!?
hmm… what's in a name?
Does the Name of a Dart Tournament really matter?
Will it's name really matter to the player that comes to participate?
Some say that the name will serve to stimulate the memory of or memorialize a person or an event. But absent those conditions / circumstances, what does the name of a Dart Tournament really do?
Well I guess you could say that it separates one tourney from another.
Does it really?
There so many Classics, Shootouts, Opens and Flings that the names don't qualify to be called distinctive. Hardly the hallowed names like "the Super Bowl" "Wimbledon or "The Masters" Yep, there are some unique Dart Tournament names out there such as....

But the trend seems to be just throwing another "Shootout," "Fling," or "Open" onto the list of tourney names.
So here we are about to launch a new tournament at this years (2008) Seaside Highland Games. How do we proceed?
Do we attempt to break out of the trend of "Shootouts," "Flings," or "Opens"?
Or does the name really matter to those that attend the tourney?
There were many discussions among the tournament committee members about names that would catch your eye, names that would inspire and names that would last for all time. Well with all of the discussion done, and no name for the tournament, we came up with a plan. We would each brainstorm like mad and submit our ideas to a list. Once we all submitted our ideas, we would each choose three names from the list, and then vote from resulting slimed down list.
The "brainstorm list" was extensive and interesting... well I could share it here, but that could prove a bit tedious. Let's just say that the following ideas will give you the spirit of the ideas:
