Dartzmania clinch APO Founders 5-man team title

KUWAIT CITY, Nov. 30: Xpressmoney-Dartzmania proved that they were the best by taking the title in the 1st Expressmoney-APO Founders 5-Man Team Tournament at the Handball Gym in Kazma Sports Complex in Adailiya, Friday. The event was organised by Alpha Phi Omega Kuwait Alumni Association (APO KAA-153). The showdown in the championship finals saw Xpressmoney-Dartzmania clinch a 10-2 point victory against Xpressmoney-Snipers, who were actually on top of the standings in the initial round, the first to reach the finals and had been waiting for their opponent for the crown. But in the end, when it really mattered, Dartzmania peaked at the right moment to prove that they were the best team in the tournament.

The organizers made use of the double round robin format with the preliminary play-offs of four singles events on the 501 best of 3 mode of play which brought 1 point each for the victors while the two doubles were also counted as 2 points each with 701 best of 3 as the mode of the game. For the team event, 1001 was used as the mode of play in the best of 3 games and brought 4 points but in the 2nd round the step-the-ladder setup was used.
The singles event saw one of the Dartzmania’s premium players Chock Sovery aim true repeatedly to stun his opponent and take the initial set with a doubles 20 but it was not long before Rolan T. got into the right grove and started finding his mark to earn a doubles 8 for victory which brought them level on 1-1 that called for a deciding set. In the decider Chock remained steady and won with a doubles 16 to take the match.

Ronnie Anastacio, who has been honoured a number of times in previous competitions, appeared to be in a hurry when he wasted no time in the 2-leg match against Mike Malag by hitting doubles 4 and 1 in the first two sets to clinch the match and get another point for his team.
Meanwhile, Snipers bounced back through one of the outstanding players in the arena — Tony Villanueva who scored a doubles 20 that saw him take the 1st set, but Jeff Nabong consistently displayed his accuracy and managed to retaliate with a doubles 20 that saw both the players level with one set each which resulted in the match going into the a deciding game. Tony took the game more seriously in the third set and pressed on with a doubles 10 to collect 1 point for his team.
