"Magnificent Eight" Anticipating Big Kick-Off! PHIL TAYLOR will begin his challenge to regain darting supremacy from Raymond van Barneveld when the 2007 Holsten Premier League Darts kicks off on Thursday night.

Taylor lost his Ladbrokes.com World Championship crown to the Dutchman a month ago, letting a 3-0 lead slip at the Circus Tavern before van Barneveld won 7-6 in a sudden death final leg.

The pair will meet twice in the next 14 weeks during the league phase of the £275,000 Holsten Premier League, with the first night taking place at the Plymouth Pavilions.

The long awaited January 2nd had finally arrived and legions of Rocklandites flocked to the old Bigalo Mansion for what they thought was a once in a lifetime Rockland Eagles open house. Word spread like wildfire through Rockvegas from TKO Sheas to DJ's pub that the Eagles was opening it's doors to the public to watch Dart master Skitziod and his band of brothers known as Bad Medicine go for the State Championship. The masses gathered in the Bird Parking lot but were not granted access inside the building. The mob was growing angry and sources said that an emergency meeting was called and the Eagles brass was gathered in the upstairs hall war room.

I have rarely been more excited at this time of the year. It is apparently when people get most depressed as the Christmas bills come to roost and cold winds dispel what remains of the festive bonhomie. But if you’re a darts fan it’s Mardi Gras right through till May with the all-action Holsten Premier Darts League. We are starting at Plymouth on Thursday and I am licking the old Geordie lips.

My best line of the recent World Championship was, ‘It’s brutal. It’s vicious. But it’s a kind of poetry.’ That will do to set the tone for 15 weeks of sensational darts featuring the tungsten gallacticos. I hope this list doesn’t faze any of the lads because I’m known in some circles as The Black Spot.

There's a sense of relief around Blair, Wisconsin since Josh Hanson has come home from Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis. Josh, they call him Hannor here, fell 16 stories out a window at the Hyatt Hotel. He landed on an awning, which broke his fall and probably saved his life. Hannor runs Heine's Sports Bar with partner Chad Steine. "He has some cuts on his hands and face and his one leg is broken, but other than that, he looks and sounds great."

A western Wisconsin man who survived a 16-story fall at a Minneapolis hotel is breathing through a tube, after both his lungs collapsed and he tore his trachea. His aunt says Joshua Hanson, 29, Blair, also has a rod permanently placed in his right leg – but all things considered, he’s making good progress. Hanson was in critical condition Monday at a hospital in Minneapolis. He was there for a darts tournament last Saturday when he ran down a 17th-floor hallway while goofing around and he went through a double-paned window which stretches from the floor to the ceiling. It took place at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in downtown Minneapolis.
He landed on an overhang one story above the ground, and was conscious when he was taken to the hospital. Friends and relatives call Hanson’s survival a miracle. Doctors say they have no explanation for it – and they don’t have a timetable yet for his recovery. Meanwhile, the city will inspect the broken window today. Officials said it met the city’s code when the hotel was built 20 years ago but it would not pass the mandate for new buildings. The hotel says it will do what’s necessary to make things safe...

It’s worth nine points. Biron is one of about 40 dart enthusiasts who attend Elks Lodge’s Tuesday night dart league. “The people who are here and the social interaction, that’s what its all about,” Biron said.

After a tough childhood, helping his imposing dad in the garden, looking after his pigeons, Bobby George left school early barely able to read or write. A life in the building trade – digging the Victoria Line on the London underground and laying concrete and granite floors – or minding Essex pub doors in the post-Krays era seemed to beckon.

That is until, after a day’s fishing off southern Ireland in the summer of 1976, a game of pub darts got off the ground. By the end of the night Bobby had taken on and beaten the whole pub. He was a natural. He has never really looked back: three years later he won the News of the World Championship.
