'It's been a fantastic event,' said Taylor.

'This is a massive breakthrough for darts in America and I'm sure it will be bigger next year."

Dartoids World - Two Smart Guys

Dartoids World: "Fairclough and Nickolson -- Two Smart Guys who aren't Mates
# 257 06/01/2006

There are two things in life that intimidate me.

The first of course is women. How when I look straight into their eyes every single one of them on Earth knows that I’m really trying to sneak a peek down their shirts, I just do not understand. It’s a mystery.

The other is computer techies. Don’t ask me why. I suppose it’s like having a conversation with a Brit or for that matter a woman – no matter how slowly they talk or carefully they explain something to me, I just don’t get it."

"Sharp darts honoured

by Shane Jones
Wednesday May 24, 2006
Sherwood Park News — It was a year of changes for the Sherwood Park Pub Dart League.
Gone was the C division in favour of larger A and B pools. And the focus on strictly team play was divided to include singles and doubles elements as well.
And it appears the moves were all on target.
The SPPDL recently wrapped up another successful season with their annual end of the year awards banquet."

By Martin Morgan

CUMBRIA’S top two darts stars will this weekend face American rivals chasing a $1 million bounty in the United States.

Dartoids World: WSoD - The Madness is Over!

Dartoids World:
# 253 05/19/2006

"Friday Night Madness is over and it wasn’t really madness and for this KUDO must go out to Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) Tournament Director Tommy Cox. Somehow tonight he not only managed to corral 256 American 'last chance' World Series of Darts (WSOD) hopefuls into the bowels of the Mohegan Arena, someway he and his fine staff also managed to get them all out of the venue in a mere five hours time. From start to finish the competition ran more smoothly than anyone might have imagined, including I am willing to bet, Cox himself.

The Mohegan arena, home to the WNBA Connecticut Sun, has seen a lot over the few short years of its life. Tim McGraw. Bon Jovi. Rod Stewart. Davis Cup tennis. Even the World’s Strongest Man competition. "

Dartoids World: "Oceans 15
# 252 05/19/2006

Here I am among the Indians along the Thames River in the scenic foothills of southeastern Connecticut for the first ever million dollar World Series of Darts (WSOD). It’s been a bit harrowing so far, hanging out as I have been with all these Indians and the Professional Darts Corporation’s (PDC) Dick Allix. So please note: despite the last line of this column I will be back again tomorrow with the results of Friday Night Madness.

If you’re British and you’re reading this (and you pretty much have to because this is one tournament you’re not gonna be able to flip on your damn telly to watch) there are a couple of things you must know.

"

Dartoids World - Thank you, Stan James!

Dartoids World: "Thank you, Stan James!
# 251 05/17/2006

It seems like only yesterday that word popped out in the New York Times that the Professional Darts Corporation’s (PDC) Barry Hearn, Michael Davies (the bloke who brought us Who Wants to be a Millionaire and Wife Swap) and ESPN had struck a deal. It was last October actually, just about six moons ago…

The news seemed too good to be true.

But it was true. The richest extravaganza in the history of the sport of darts, the World Series of Darts (WSOD), was ON and the whole thing was going to unfold on American soil (which we stole from the Indians) and be broadcast beginning July 18 in eight prime-time segments on American television. The top prize for an American, if an American could achieve the unthinkable – beat the odds (currently set at 25-1 by British sports bookmaker Stan James) and outlast the top sixteen professionals in the world – was set at a whopping one million dollars. SEWA-darts.com & Dartplayer.net

This just in from Erik at SEWA-darts.com!

SEWA-darts.com & Dartplayer.net: "Many of you know that I have been conducting a 'Dartboard Comparison Test' since the beginning of the year and that test is now complete.

The following boards were part of this comparison test:

1. Unicorn Eclipse Pro
2. Unicorn Radius
3. Nodor Supawire
4. DMI Bandit

I'll have a full report out on the test soon, but here are the results in short form:

1st: Unicorn Eclipse Pro.

The Eclipse Pro handled some pretty heavy abuse with up to 7 nights a week of use and from 3 to 5 hours at a time. It was dropped, had strange objects thrown at it, was pulled (ripped really) off the wall and was bent to the point that the wires began to protrude from the board.

However, despite the damage and the signs of wear players preferred to play on the Eclipse Pro even over a brand new DMI Bandit and NODOR Supawire!

I found myself liking all the boards though, but in he end I just wanted to play on the Eclipse Pro and I really didn't care what shape it was in -- and neither did anyone else it would seem.

Part of this test was to see which board got the most use -- The Eclipse Pro was used probably 3 to 4 times more then any other board!

That says something.

So the 'officially recommended dartboard' of SEWA-Darts.com in 2006 is the Unicorn Eclipse Pro!

Congratulations go out to Unicorn for producing such a fine product and may we all get to play on Eclipse Pros!

Erik"

World Series of Darts Player Profile

It’s going to be tough… the top sixteen in the world are great players. But there are a lot of great players here in the U.S. (too). I’m looking forward to it. I’ll have a lot of support there from family and friends.

....
As the story goes, Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) Chairman Barry Hearn has commented that Zion Grove, Pennsylvania’s John Kuczynski’s top sixteen finish at last year’s Ladbrokes World Profession Darts Championship cost him $25,000.

Whether the story’s true or not is anybody’s guess."
