"Marskman" line... a new type of dart?

There really isn't anything really new or revolutionary in the world of darts design. I know that the Joust dart attempts to change the basic structural concept combining barrel and shaft, and SlikStik shafts, Spider Leg Shafts and DynaStar flights/shafts attempt to change the common concept of how shafts and flights fit together. However the other day I stumbled across this design that incorporates an internal weight in the barrel to drive the point into the board.

I'm kind of thinking that the concept is a take off on the Hammerhead type movable point theory that uses the mass of the dart to attempt to prevent bounce outs, and insure the darts will stick in the board. So after looking at his site and his darts, I must say that I'm glad that this guy is attempting to innovate in the field of dart design! I would be curious to see how the darts feel, because my first guess is that they are likely to feel unbalanced, and maybe rattle? But that's just a guess.

So now I'm wondering what everyone might think of these darts?
http://darts.akmachinenm.com/

His site says:
quote...

My dart barrels are made from aircraft grade aluminum, therefore they are very light. But, they are hollow. I am able to make them hit like a heavier dart by inserting a weight into the cavity and taking advantage of the conservation of momentum trick.

Andy Relf's diary of a darts player... 12-10-09

Published Date: 10 December 2009
Last Friday in the Cracker league it was the Mixed Triples competition, with representatives from each team spread over two venues, the Kings Head at Horsebridge, and the Railway in Hailsham.

Tony Cox, my wife Kristina and I were at The Railway, and Jim Clowes, Dave Weaver and Angela Ashley were at the Kings Head.

I'm not a great fan of the triples, as it seems you have to wait 10 minutes for your turn to come around again! The draw was done and we were to meet the legendary Leroy 'Same Old Faces' Hobden, and his team mates Rod and Di. A pretty lacklustre match saw us emerge as winners, Kris was having to wear plasters on her throwing fingers, because she had some nasty splits in them, and Coxy by his own admission, couldn't hit a barn door with a shotgun! (full article link...)

Don't forget to get your entry forms for the Eastbourne Open running 29 – 31 January 2010 from 0845 4302122 or info@eastbournedarts.co.uk.

Throw for $1,000,000

Throw for $1,000,000

Pub players and pros alike are about to throw for $1,000,000 (£600,000) - that's 6 times bigger than the BBC's BDO top prize and 3 times greater than SKY's PDC top prize. Darts legend Bobby George is the first confirmed competitor and you can join Bobby by guaranteeing your place for FREE at Bullseye Million by registering now.

Held at the NEC Birmingham on Saturday 17 July 2010, Bullseye Million is a one-day darts event, open to everyone worldwide (male and female aged 18 and over). It will be the first where the crowd are the competitors. As well as throwing for $1,000,000 (£600,000), competitors will also be able to enjoy a full day's entertainment, including a Darts Expo, exhibition matches, stand-up comedy and live music.

Who will hold their nerve and make it through 15 one-dart rounds of 'nearest the bullseye' to win $1,000,000 - Phil the Power or Phil the barman?

from the email stack... Watch LIVE county darts!

Hey guys,

This is REALLY cool. This is one of the first times that you will be able to watch LIVE darts between County Leagues in England this weekend. For those of you that don’t know, County League is extremely competitive and has some of the best players in the world you have never heard of. Most all top players you know today (Phil Taylor etc..) were all County players at one time. There are lots of phenomenal County players who would never dare to think of playing on the big stage and pride themselves of being a pub player but are PLENTY good enough to beat the likes of someone like Wayne Mardle or Kevin Painter etc..

So check it out at www.worlddartstv.com

Phil

Below is the message I got from them this morning:

Hi all, we are still struggling with our new sponsors to get our new website underway BUT in the meantime, this Saturday and Sunday, 5th and 6th December we will be broadcasting live a county game from Nottinghamshire where they host Worcestershire.

The filming, production etc is all being done by Nottinghamshire themselves and it is only the second time of doing it so please give them a chance to get things right over the next few matches. They are the first County to attempt this so full credit must be given to them for trying.

To view a taster of whats to come, log into the WDTV website and click on the Notts vs Worcs link in the menu.

Portland Area Dart Association gets a bit of a plug

Darts

Portland is a dart town: the Portland Area Dart Association has more than 200 active members, and league night brings out three dozen teams to compete at places around town. Though a person could just step up to the line and let fly, true dart games are not for the faint of math. In various games players start with 501 or 301 points and reduce their scores to zero, ending with a hit in the double ring, but without scoring more than the number needed. (It's more complicated than that, actually, and a variation called cricket is nearly as hard to follow as its namesake.)

2010 - Tom Fleetwood Memorial LAS VEGAS OPEN DART TOURNAMENT

I got this via email...

TRIPLE CROWN PRODUCTIONS

November 2009

Dear Fellow Darters & Friends,

I am pleased to invite your participation in the Tom Fleetwood Memorial LAS VEGAS OPEN DART TOURNAMENT, to be staged on January 29 - 31, 2010. Again, this year, I appreciate the generous sponsorship support from DMI® and Puma® Dart Products, who supply 70 'Bandit' boards for tournament play. The 32nd annual event will be played in the ballroom, at the Tuscany Suites & Casino, in Las Vegas. The event is ADO Sanctioned and is included in BOTH the WDF and BDO Rankings. The enclosed flyer provides complete tournament information.

A limited block of 600+ sq. ft. suites has been reserved for darters at the Tuscany, at a Special Darters’ Rate of $75 / night + tax. You may reserve your suite by phone at 1-877-887-2261, Make certain to request the Special Darters’ Rate by mentioning LV OPEN DARTS or using the Group Code: 1277EB. The Reservation Deadline is January 8, 2010.

The Tuscany Suites & Casino features a variety of restaurants / bars for your dining and drinking pleasure. Situated in a lovely 27-acre European setting, this all-suite hotel is located at 255 E. Flamingo Road --- just a short taxi ride from the airport. Rooms include either a king-size or two double beds and --- best of all --- in recognition of your past support, the Tuscany has LOWERED the Special Darters’ Rate to $75 per night + tax!!!

I know how difficult it is for players to choose which tournaments deserve their participation. To encourage you to include the 2010 Las Vegas Open in your plans I have, once again, increased the prize structure by $500 --- bringing the total to $21050!! Such increases would not be possible without your continued participation, over the past 31 years.

Hopefully, players will show their appreciation in 2010, by entering as many events as possible, and by staying, eating and drinking at the Tuscany Suites & Casino. In so doing, you will help to insure the future of this darts event.

Please note that TCP does not accept personal checks for entry fees. Also, be aware that non-participants under age 16 will not be allowed in the tournament hall.

I sincerely thank you for your past support of the Tom Fleetwood Memorial LAS VEGAS OPEN DART TOURNAMENT and hope you will choose to participate again, in 2010. I look forward to seeing you, January 29 - 31, 2010, in Las Vegas.

See You There!!!!!

Della A. Fleetwood

Della Fleetwood, TCP Owner / LVO Tournament Director

NOTE: Once again, we are pleased to have been chosen to host the ADO National Cricket
Championships in the tournament hall, at 9:00 AM on Friday, January 29th. All
Spectators and Volunteer Markers are most welcome!!

Greetings!

Thirteen-times world champion Phil Taylor is over the moon again (honest) as he kicks off October with another professional tour win – his thirteenth of the year – with a victory over James Wade in the final of the Irish Players Championship.

Dennis Priestley then picks up his third tour victory of the year, the following day, with a win over Raymond van Barneveld. The Menace worked his way through John MacGowan, Louis Blundell, Colin Monk, Jelle Klaasen, and Mervyn King en route.

The World Grand Prix takes center stage in Dublin and begins with a shocker -

* 2009 World Darts Federation Cup XVII

Competitors practice Thursday during World Darts Federation World Cup XVII at the Blake Hotel in downtown Charlotte.

The dart teams from Ireland, Switzerland and Trinidad and Tobago gather outside the Blake Hotel in downtown Charlotte on Thursday for a cigarette break.

Up the stairs and inside a 52,000-square foot ballroom are the teams from the Netherlands and England. They take their darts seriously over there. They came to the United States to win, not to smoke. You think they need tobacco? They don't need tobacco. They have beer.

It is 9:41 a.m. My early favorites to win the World Darts Federation World Cup XVII: the Netherlands and England.

We did increase the number of blind draw double matches so we have one major event each day. You never know who you might be paired with. There will be a grand Dart Store provided by Patricia Miller and family, better known as the Dart Doctors. Puma Darts have been a great sponsor this year, so all Puma supplies will be available for 15% off! Parking is only $1 a day and if you are taking public transit, take BART to SFO and there is a free shuttle to the hotel 24/7!!!

All of our flyers, payout bracket, information and contact information can be found at:

This is our first year at the San Francisco Marriott Hotel and are beyond excited about the four star quality of the facilities we have at great prices. Located just south of SFO, the Marriott has a top rated restaurant, The Hangar Steak, Flights 101 Club Lounge, it's own Starbucks & an all needs boutique store in the lobby. The main lounge and all rooms come with free Wi-Fi not to mention the best view of air traffic landing and taking off right across the water. There is a splendid brunch buffet each day to boot. We do remember that many of you (and I) are on budget, so all meals here might not be in your cards. There are 4 major restaurants off premise that are walkable & on the opposite side of Highway 101 on E. Millbrae Ave. there are over six fast food restaurants, two good sized grocery stores and one of the peninsulas best Dim-Sum Chinese Restaurant.

The tournament will have a lavish no-host bar, Michelle S. our licensed Message Therapist will be on duty as well as a large raffle and silent auction will be running throughout the tournament. A large 50/50 draw will also be running all weekend with the final pull on Sunday Afternoon.

One small perk of the SF Open at the Marriott is that it is the home of the San Francisco
49ers when they play at home. They are playing the Rams on Sunday at Candlestick Park. The team has been invited to come on down and play with us, esp. Friday night, so, it's not official, but don't be surprised to see a few XXXL dart players shooting next to you.

The whole SFDA Family and I look forward to seeing you at our event this year,

Exclusive International Distribution Agreement Signed!
"Joust Dart," "Joust Point" & "FT" Licensed!
Dear Highly Valued Past Repeat Customers,

First and foremost, I personally want to thank all of you for supporting our darting design philosophy and purchasing our products since we started. I personally know and will remember forever, most of your names. If it wasn't for your personal competitive drive, equipment demands and purchasing with your intelligence, DartSmarts would never have even made it out of the gate. Once again, I sincerely thank you very much.

DartSmarts, in retrospect, has been in existence since 2001. Since day one, we have been designing the most sophisticated dart in the world. We have had that edge because we are darts players just like you, so we understand and are sensitive to the situations and demands of competitive darts. We feel that our customers deserve every possible advantage and we are going to give it to them. If you can find a better designed dart, we'll buy it for you and that won't happen because we know that dart doesn't exist.

FYI: As of right now, DartSmarts has signed a licensing agreement including exclusive international distribution rights, except for the United States and Canada, with one of the largest dart manufacturers in the world. It is a signed and done deal. I'm not letting the cat out of the bag just yet of exactly "who" that is, but in the next 30 days they will announce to the trades that they're collaborating with DartSmarts. This company fabricates an incredible dart. This company's precision machining will bring the design of our darts to a much higher quality level than it has ever been before. The DartSmarts brand will continue internationally by making our new moveable-point dart GEN-4J (J = Joust), the dart that "Does It All" available.

sewa-darts.com newsletter... September

As this year a very important WDF tournament will take place in the USA – in Charlotte – we thought this would be worth a newsletter and some special contributions.
So you can find now an SEWA a short article about the history of the tournament and the American successes so far – you can find it here:
http://sewa-darts.com/(tournament article)

The most important components of a tournament of course are the players – one of our SEWA Generals - General Steve Brown well know as Chunky and both ADO official and member of the American World Cup Team – suggested himself as victim for an interview.
And he had to answer quite a lot of questions not only about this tournament and the ADO but about darts in the US in general, about his youth in the UK, about practice….
Hopefully you´ll enjoy it as much as I did asking.
You can find it here: http://sewa-darts.com(Steve Brown interview)

For me from the outside an American national team just would not be complete without another player – though not a SEWA member she from time to time turned up in the ladies forum – I am sure you all know her much better then I do: Stacy Bromberg who is this time for the sixth time part of the World Cup Team. She like Steve kindly agreed to be asked by me a lot of questions - some of course about ladies darts – and she of course has a lot to tell us. This interview will be published soon exclusively on SEWA too so stick to the article page!

And of course you´ll find all updates not only on the World Cup site: http://www.worldcupdarts2009.com
but also on SEWA in the tournaments and competition forum.

Last but not least – as it has nothing to do with the World Cup – you can now read if you are interested a review of the new book of SEWA’s Flight School General George Silberzahn. Might be you are interested – I really can only recommend Darts: Beginning to End – and you´ll be probably astonished how much SEWA you can find in it…
Here the link: http://sewa-darts.com(George Silberzahn article)

The design for the SEWA-Darts.Com Newsletter was kindly done by a SEWA member - by Rags = Kelly Ragland who not only designs newsletters for free.

from the email stack... Marty Brittingham

Hello SoCal Darters,

I received a call from Elizabeth Spare today telling me that Marty Brittingham passed away last Friday. Her son Ethan was there by himself with Marty. He called for help then did CPR until the paramedics arrived, but Marty passed away. She had been battling cancer and going through some aggressive chemo. There will be more information forthcoming but she did not desire any memorial services.

She was a very close friend of Nick and Elizabeth Spare. (Nick recently passed away as well). She used to run dart shoots at the Scarlet Lady in Culver City, and was very active in SCDA. I will be forwarding the obituary as soon as it is available.

You can send condolences for the family to her brother at:

Col. James Brittingham
624 Towncrest Drv.
Beavercreek, OH 53434

Please keep the family and Elizabeth and Ethan in your prayers.

Friday, August 28, 2009 9:53 AM

I'm sending the flier for the first Cricket Qualifier. I have another scheduled in Sept. on the 30th.

Also this is to let everyone know that at the end of the calendar year of 2009 I will be resigning as ADO Rep for GSDDA. It's been fun the last two year. I have other responsibilities with Dominik at school and his baseball so I can't do all the dart stuff as much as I would like. If anyone would like to step up for the job I'll help and give you all me stuff. Remember GSDDA is hosting the Cricket regional, date to be determined lets make it a great one more people the better chances of going to Vegas.

See ya at the qualifiers and regional.

from the email stack... Southern California Darters

Monday, August 10, 2009 10:35 AM

Southern California Darters,
Sharing some sad news. It appears that Winnie Outcalt, Carolyn Stone, and Nick Spare all passed away recently. All of them played darts for many years in Southern California, and the extended Los Angeles basin. If you did or did not know them, please think of their families and loved ones.
Charles Bradish

From: kayla
Subject: can you pass this please...

Hi all,
Here is a link to Winnie’s Guest Book: http://www.legacy.com/gb2/default.aspx?bookide45661105735
This link may take you to her obit on the Daily Breeze web site, or it may just take to you the search page, where you can search by her last name (Outcalt).
And, in case you had not heard, Carolyn Stone, who played darts with her husband Cliff and most often with Marty Brittingham, out of the Scarlet Lady, also passed away this week. Her service was also held today.
And, just so you aren’t waiting for the “third shoe” to drop, Nick Spare, whom Marty moved back East to be closer to, along with his family, died last week in his sleep of an apparent heart attack.
I feel like I should insert some off-color joke here so you know it’s really me. I don’t usually deliver such sad news.
Hope all is well.
Tony

Hi everyone,
I found out last night that Winnie had passed away. Winnie was a member of the Moonspinners for many years. She had successfully battled breast cancer in the past but lost the current battle with spinal cancer. Phil, Rose, Gerry, Lill and I had lunch with her a few months ago. She was in good spirits despite everything she was going through. We will truly miss her……….

click this link to see the original post announcing this event...

Hi everyone, due to lack of participation, the men's regional that was scheduled for this Sunday (August 2nd) has been canceled. At this time, it does not appear that there will be the need for a ladies regional either.

I will let everyone know as soon as the cricket regional is planned.

Thanks!

Take care!!!

Reminder!

The next regional is for the US Team where the winners will go on to compete at the National Playoffs in Denver, Colorado in October. The date for the men's regional is set for Sunday August 2nd at 10am for sign-ups and 11am start time at the Fleet Reserve in Poway. I was advised that the management has arranged for food to be available that day, more than likely at their usual $5 a plate, to help support the event.

from the email stack... info reguest.... dartboard purchase...

Sometimes I get questions about dart products so I thought that I would share one here....

Q: Hello! I m wondering if you can tell me where I can purchase a tourney dart board.
Thanks for your time!

Sorry for the late reply, but I've been a bit busy getting set for our league's next season, but to answer your question I would have to say that my two favorite choices when shopping for dart products are a-zdarts.com and muller recreational products our league and our team sponsors have both purchased dartboards from these vendors.

From a-zdarts.com we purchased the Eclipse Pro from Unicorn for regular league use (the boards were great and held up well for two seasons), but the price was too high to purchase 28 boards for a tournament (http://vcda.org/GCSO-II.html), so instead we purchased the 180 Gladiator Dartboard because the price was right (there seems to have been a price increase since the date of our purchase). Out of the box there were 3 boards that had factory defects, but that does not seem to be too unusual for large orders. There were no complaints from players during the during the tournamnet. However some of the boards were sold after the tournament and had some problems with several of the boards (click this link to see pictures of the boards problem and read the dart forum discussion of the dartboard) of which I have posted pictures. Granted that others post that they have had good experiences with the Gladiator for the price I would consider other options.

For our most recent purchase of dartboards for our league's play venues we went with the
muller recreational products dartboard:DB-750 - Tournament Razor Dartboard we currently have 4 of them hanging in one of our sponsors venues. The DB-750 - Tournament Razor Dartboard has been up and been available for league (there are at no less than 2 teams playing on these boards one night a week) and public use since January of this year and they show no excessive wear and tear. You can read mine and other darters thoughts on the muller board at this sewa-darts.com (click this link to read the thread).
