Darts: 21st Malta International Open
| |
The Malta Darts Association organised the 21st edition of the Malta Darts Open. The event was held at the Topaz Hotel, St Paul’s Bay.
Before a large crowd the first day of the tournament was reserved for the men’s and ladies’ doubles where 65 pairs played it out until the quarter finals.
On the second day, the men’s and ladies’ singles were played with 145 players taking part.
Foreign players came over for the games from England, Wales, Greece, Czech Republic, Germany, Cyprus and Holland.
The third day was reserved for the quarter finals, semi finals and finals. The first final of the evening was the Ladies’ Doubles where Jane Stubbs and Margaret Sutton won against Karen Hutton and Allyson Harrison 4-1.
The Men’s doubles followed with Bryan de Hoog (Holland) and Christopher Aubrey (England) losing 2-4 to Jermaine Wattimena and Roy van Been (Both from Holand) 2-4.
Jane Stubbs and Margaret Sutton from England ontested the Ladies’ Singles after winning the doubles. Stubbs won 4-2.
The last final was between our local player Vince Busuttil and 20 year old Jermaine Wattimena from Holland. The Men’s Singles was played best out of three sets of five legs while all the other finals were played best out of seven legs. The first set was keenly contested with Vince winning 3-1. The second set went Wattimena’s way 3-2. The last set was also won by the Dutch player 3-1 to eventually win the final.
