#darts Column 424 - Who’s the Real Darts World Champion? Dartoid's World

For years Dartoid’s World has made the case that the center of the darts universe has been shifting. Now it has.

I have written that the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) should wake up and smell the noodles, that it should take its act to Asia. It hasn’t.

It’s difficult to figure. There’s good business to be had. Barry Hearn is a great businessman (and he has really nice hair).

SOPA/PIPA: Down but not out (yet) - Computerworld Blogs

The Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) and the Protect IP Act (PIPA) have both taken some pretty serious body blows over the last few days, but it would be premature to write them off just yet.

...

The sponsors of the bills have made it clear that they are intent on passing some sort of legislation to deal with what they claim is the unfettered theft of U.S. IP and copyright by rogue foreign sites. The developments of the last few days are likely to slow the momentum of the bills somewhat.

Suff you should know about "SOPA" - Electronic Frontier Foundation

"Laws around the world are forcing service providers like ISPs to act as judges for what's valid speech on the Internet, using copyright as an excuse to cut off speech and infringe on the privacy rights of users," EFF Activism Director Rainey Reitman said. "For example, in the United States, the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) could undermine long-standing legal protections for intermediaries and could potentially 'blacklist' many popular websites–like Etsy, Flickr, and Vimeo. The Global Chokepoints project will help concerned citizens fight dangerous legislation around the world."

Clinical Adams sweeps aside promising Mitchell #darts #BDO

Clinical Adams sweeps aside promising Mitchell
Top seed and defending champ Martin Adams produced a clinical performance to whitewash local man Scott Mitchell 3-0 in just 26 minutes.

The experienced defending champ recovered from a nervy opening set in which he missed a string of doubles to book his place in the last 16. It means the 55-year-old veteran from Peterborough remains on course for a third successive title. Only one other player has won the title in three successive years – that was the legendary five times winner Eric Bristow. The Crafty Cockney completed the feat back in 1986.

Ton-up finishes drive former green keeper O Shea into second round
Former green keeper Tony O’Shea teed up his title intentions clubbing Steve West 3-0 in a 27-minute thriller.

The eighth seed blasted out 140 and 142 checkouts en-route to his convincing victory over West, who lives in the Netherlands. For the second successive game nerves dominated the opening set. The fact that both players threw a total of 54 darts trying to achieve doubles summed up the tension in the opening set, snatched by a grateful eighth seed 3-2.

Ross the boss lays down the law to topple Dutch ace Fabian
Ninth seed Ross “The Boss” Montgomery brushed aside Dutch painter Fabian Roosenbrand 3-1 in an entertaining 35-minute encounter. But after the match the Glaswegian admitted: “I will need to sharpen up my doubles for my next match with Tony (O-Shea) or he will punish me.

“When I was 2-0 up I thought I was in command but Fabian came back well. Overall I felt that I deserved to get past the first round,” said a smiling Montgomery.

#darts The #PDC North American Pro Tour attn: ! - Darts Underground

The PDC North American Pro Tour

It’s official !

The PDC will launch a North American Pro Tour (NAPT) that is designed to grow each year and sustain itself after the first 3 years. Each NAPT event will be held over a weekend with the Pro Event being held on the Sunday. An associated tournament or warm-up event would precede the Pro Event on the Friday and Saturday.

The program is designed to sustain itself after the first three years meaning that there would be at least 8 Pro Events in 2015 and subsequent years. Success of the program will mean additional growth in year 4 (2015) in terms of increased prize money per event and/or an increase in the number of Pro Events throughout North America in 2015.

The following details outline the PDC NAPT program for the first three years. At the present time, one of the 3 Pro Events to be held in 2012 has been confirmed, the London Ontario NAPT Pro Event to be held on Sunday, August 26, 2012 at the Hilton London Ontario. The 2 additional Pro Events will be announced as soon as they are confirmed and will be posted on the Bull’s-Eye News website: bullseyenews.com

1. The PDC NA Pro Tour would be open only to North American residents.

2. Each Pro Event in the PDC North America Pro Tour would consist of a guaranteed $10,000
singles event with the PDC Players Championship format.

1st 2nd T-4 T-8 T-16 T-32
$2,000 $1,600 $800 $400 $200 $100

3. Each event would take place over a weekend with the Pro Event scheduled on the Sunday
with a 12:00 noon start. Entered players must check in no later than 11:00 am on the Sunday
of the event or suffer disqualification.

4. The PDC dress code and general rules would be in effect.

5. A North American Professional Darts Players Association (NAPDPA) would be launched in
year 2 with an annual membership fee ($100 US). Membership Benefits would include the
ability to accept PDC invites to PDC main events as a result of their NAOoM ranking and
other criteria, waiver of the day membership fee that will commence in year 2, and waiver of
annual NAPDPA membership fee for all PDC PDPA members.

6. Pre-registration would be required for entry into the Pro Events. Entry fee would be $100 for
the first year and $80 with a $20 day membership fee in the 2nd and subsequent years.
Members of the NAPDPA would not be required to pay the day membership fee.

7. The North American Order of Merit
(NAOoM) would include the results from the NAPT Pro Events only. It would include results on a 2 year running total basis with the results from Pro Events in the 1st year being eliminated on the anniversary of the 3rd year of those Pro Events.

8. The NAOoM would be used to select
North American players to attend PDC Main Events such as the World Championship, the US and Canada PDC World Cup Teams, and possible other PDC Main Championship Events. Invites to North American players using the NAOoM would commence in year 2 (2013) with the NAOoM rankings including all 8 Pro Event results from years 2012 and 2013.
