Cambs safe but women suffer title misery

CAMBRIDGESHIRE have retained their British Inter-Counties League, Premier Division status.

But their relief at avoiding relegation was tinged with disappointment after their women’s A team missed the chance of winning their section championship.

Overall, Cambs lost 22-17 to Essex in their final game, but results elsewhere condemned Oxfordshire and Surrey to the drop, although the defeat sent Cambs plunging to eight place – 10 points and one rung above the danger zone.

However, in the compacted lower half of the table, where 22 points separated fifth from 10th before the final round, Cambs virtually knew they were safe after the B team games on the first day when they were 9-9 with Essex – thanks to a 4-2 win for the women, their first of the season, and a 7-5 defeat for the men – and Glamorgan were thumping Oxfordshire 14-4.

County's crunch Cheshire clash

CAMBS face a crucial match away to Cheshire this weekend in their fight for survival in the BDO Inter-County Premier Division.

Darts: Roberts clinches a vital last-gasp victory for county side

IT might not have started too well, but Cambridgeshire's latest British Inter-Counties League Premier Division outing certainly ended on a high.

Darts: Cambs reckon they're too good to go down

MAN-OF-THE-MATCH: But Martin Adams couldn’t save Cambs from defeat against Glamorgan.

CAMBRIDGESHIRE'S top throwers are up for the battle of securing their British Inter-Counties League Premier Division survival.
The local oche aces dropped back into relegation bother after going down to a 24-15 home defeat at the hands of Glamorgan over the weekend.
