As John Prescott flicks a steel-tipped dart toward a bulls eye, he thinks of soldiers in Afghanistan playing darts on their downtime.
When an Army sergeant posted a memo that landed on a Richland-based darts resource Web site in late March, Prescott saw a way to help Americans in uniform. He was inundated with a couple hundred responses when he suggested in a sewa-darts.com forum that dart enthusiasts donate dart supplies.
The result: A dart drive, dubbed Darts for Troops, which has raised nearly $2,500 worth of supplies.
'I'm hanging out at the bars doing darts, and (soldiers) are getting shot at,' said Prescott, a masters-level dart player from Pasco. 'It's the least I can do.'"
