It was a hard-fought night which featured Marc Marchesani winning in

men OGDs carried into the playoffs. Bender's roster consists of T J

Tri-City Herald: Darts for the troops...

Tri-City Herald: Local: "Darts for Troops aims to give soldiers piece of home

Published Saturday, June 24th, 2006

By Aimee Chou, Herald staff writer

As John Prescott flicks a steel-tipped dart toward a bulls eye, he thinks of soldiers in Afghanistan playing darts on their downtime.

When an Army sergeant posted a memo that landed on a Richland-based darts resource Web site in late March, Prescott saw a way to help Americans in uniform. He was inundated with a couple hundred responses when he suggested in a sewa-darts.com forum that dart enthusiasts donate dart supplies.

The result: A dart drive, dubbed Darts for Troops, which has raised nearly $2,500 worth of supplies.

'I'm hanging out at the bars doing darts, and (soldiers) are getting shot at,' said Prescott, a masters-level dart player from Pasco. 'It's the least I can do.'"

By Bolton Evening News Reporter

THE lucky arrows of top international darts player Raymond Van Barneveld could be winging their way back to him after they were stolen at the Reebok Stadium.

Dutchman Van Barneveld, also known as 'Barney', competed in the Budweiser UK Open darts championship at the Reebok Stadium earlier this month.

He won the £30,000 UK title, but was distraught when his darts were taken from the drinks podium on stage."

TAMPA - A federal judge, apparently irate at attorneys who could not agree on the slightest details of a lawsuit, has ordered them to resolve their latest dispute the old fashioned way – a round of rock-paper-scissors."

Hmmm...... Maybe the judge should have made them "cork/diddle" to see who gets to choose....

IT WAS nice to see relatively unknown darts players sharing the stage with the big names in the game – and giving a good account of themselves.

The Budweiser UK Open has become a very pleasant fixture in the darting calendar and every year there have been expected results which are always a welcome sight to regular darts fans. "

planet darts: Barney.... his lucky... were taken

Barney Appeals For Missing Darts

RAYMOND van Barneveld has appealed for the return of his lucky darts after they were taken from the Reebok Stadium stage where he won the Budweiser UK Open on Sunday.

The Dutchman, widely recognised as one of the best darts players in history, had just won the £30,000 first prize when his darts were swiped from the stage by an over-enthusiastic punter.

And van Barneveld has made a passionate plea for the three darts to be returned, claiming he doesn't blame the fan who pinched them.

"Normally I wouldn't mind, but these darts are special to me, van Barneveld said.

"I don't blame the fan who took them, everyone was very excited and there was a great atmosphere - whoever it was must have just been caught up in the heat of the moment.

The Rhinelander Daily News: "Top Flight: Cleveland wins at Worlds

Rhinelander dart player earns professional status at Bullshooter Challenge

Throwing darts is one thing. Throwing them accurately for fourteen hours a day for three days straight, is another target entirely.

“That was hard,” said Rhinelander's Pat Cleveland on a late-May competition in Chicago. “I've never had to concentrate that long before. It was exhausting.”

But well worth it.

Cleveland became Central Wisconsin Dart Association's first World Champion after he finished first overall in the Top Gun Triples with Lane Helgeson and Carolyn Nessman, both of Mukwonago, and went on to earn pro-status after competing in the Bullshooter World Challenge of Champions, May 25-29, in Illinois."

He produced his best showing yet on the Isle of Sheppey, edging out Roy in a deciding final leg to claim the £2,000 first prize. His averages against Alex was 29.70 but both players were consistent - Alex put out an 11 darter in the seventh leg after having two maximums back-to-back to start a possible 9-darter - Alex's average over the 11 legs : 28.15"

CUMBRIA-BASED Alan Warriner-Little plans to become a full-time darts player in a bid to cash in on the sport’s rocketing levels of prize money.

Warriner-Little, 45, who lives at Crosby near Maryport, is ranked 14 in the world but is only a part-time player as he works four days a week as a drugs counsellor in Lancaster.

But “The Iceman,” who did not take up darts until he was 21, believes he could make a living from darts as it enjoys a global boom, though he does not want to give up entirely on his work with drug addicts."
