IMPORTANT CHANGES TO BDO INVITATION TABLES CRITERIA

Following a comprehensive review of the BDO Invitation Tables by the BDO Board of Directors, there will be more events, more available prize money and more opportunities for BDO and WDF players from 2009 onwards.

The Board has agreed to introduce a whole raft of changes that will come into effect in 2009.

This includes recognition of the first ever International Grand Prix Of The Lowlands, comprising five Dutch and Belgium events, plus the inclusion of three additional events in the USA and the Quebec Open in Canada. (full article...)

DARTS: Battling Oxon ring changes

Changes have been made by Oxfordshire as they bid for their first win in the British Darts Organisation Inter-Counties Championship Premier Division when they take on Hampshire at East Challow British Legion this weekend.

Oxon, who were runners-up in the 2008 Oxfordshire Sports Awards, have drawn two and lost one of their first three games, and stand seventh in the table – one place below Hampshire. (full article...)

DARTS: Wiltshire checked by late Shropshire fightback

WILTSHIRE stay unbeaten in the British Darts Organisation inter-county championship but were held to a draw for the second successive game, writes DAVE EATON.

After a comprehensive win on the Isle of Wight in their opening Division Four match of the 2008/09 campaign, they were held to a draw at home by Avon (West of England). (full report...)

O'Shea weighs up switch to 'megabucks' PDC

STOCKPORT’S British Darts Organisation star Tony O’Shea has revealed for the first time that he is currently considering a switch to Barry Hearn’s big bucks rival Professional Darts Corporation set-up.

A recent bust-up with the BDO regarding ranking points and tournament seedings triggered O’Shea’s frustration, and he’ll be considering his options immediately after the Lakeside 2009 World Professional Championships in January.

O’Shea said: "I’ve been really disappointed with the actions of the BDO, so I’ve already taken a look at what might be on offer for me if I switch to the PDC. (full article...)

Norfolk darts star Dawn Standley has defied the odds again to win another top title and become the British number one in the process.

The 40-year-old mother of two astounded herself and her opponents when picking up the British Darts Organisation's British Masters title the day after a cataract operation which left her with impaired sight and only a blurred outline of the board. (click for full article)

Darts: Klaasen leads the Dutch defections to PDC - Guardian Unlimited Sport


A row broke out yesterday when three Dutch players, Jelle Klaasen, Michael van Gerwen and Vincent van der Voort, swapped codes - less than 24 hours after Martin Adams's 7-6 defeat of Phill Nixon in the final of the Lakeside World Professional Championships.

The BDO claims Klaasen is still legally their player Former Lakeside World champion Jelle Klaasen could face legal action after switching sides in darts' civil war. Earlier this week Klaasen left the British Darts Organisation to join the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC). Michael van Gerwen Losing Van Gerwen would be a major blow for the BDO Rising Dutch star Michael van Gerwen has been urged not to defect from the Lakeside World Darts Championships. Reports have claimed the 17-year-old is ready to switch to the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) circuit. But the British Darts Organisation (BDO) want him to develop his fledgling career under its umbrella.

DE RUITER FLYING THE FLAG

PA Sport Niels de Ruiter is the unlikely hero carrying Dutch hopes on his shoulders in Saturday's semi-finals of the Lakeside World Championship in Frimley Green. Of the seven representatives from the Netherlands who started the tournament a week ago only De Ruiter remains - something very few people would have predicted, including the player himself. The man known as 'The Excellent Dude' plays qualifier Phil Nixon - another rank outsider at the start of the event - for a place in the final against top seed Martin Adams or Mervyn King.

De Ruiter staged a superb recovery to secure the win
Phil Nixon will meet fellow outsider Niels de Ruiter in the semi-finals of the Lakeside World Championship after both claimed narrow 5-4 wins.

Qualifier Nixon, from Durham, held his nerve after 15th seed Paul Hanvidge had fought back from 4-1 down to level at 4-4 to win.

Gulliver’s glory bid

DEFENDING champion Trina Gulliver continues her assault on a seventh successive British Darts Organisation world championship at the Lakeside Country Club in Frimley Green, Surrey tonight (Thursday). The 37-year-old Southam ace, who has won every World Championship since the ladies event was launched in 2001, faces Lakeside newcomer Anastasia Dobromyslova (Russia) in the last four.

Fitton set for PDC switch?



STOCKPORT’S British Darts Organisation favourite Darryl Fitton could be on the verge of a dramatic switch to the sport’s rival outfit, the Professional Darts Corporation.

Fitton, who suffered a miserable first round defeat to Phil Nixon at the BDO World Championships on Sunday, has long been courted by Barry Hearn’s rival set-up [as has fellow Stockport star Tony O’Shea], and he has revealed that another offer is currently on the table.
