Return of big-time darts a huge success
Big-time darts returned to Eastbourne last weekend when around 1,000 players and fans enjoyed a full programme of top flight darts.
The Mayor and Mayoress joined in enthusiastically with Friday night's exhibition, and Claire Szanto managed to beat seven times ladies world champion Trina Gulliver.
Bobby George was host, and set the stage for the evening's entertainment by welcoming three professional players, who all played members of the public.
Connor, a 10-year-old local player, deservedly beat Darryl Fitton, albeit with the aid of a step stool to remove the darts.

Darryl Fitton, 2008 PDC Grand Slam - Darts Regulation Authority
The DRA Disciplinary Committee found that there is no evidence that players have The DRA Disciplinary Committee found that there is no evidence that players have colluded to arrange outcomes of darts matches or that there has been gambling by players or others that would be in breach of DRA Rules.
The DRA reminds all players subject to DRA rules of their responsibility to be totally competitive at all times during play and to consider the effect of their actions and their words before and after games. It was brought to the attention of the DRA that comments made in television interviews by Darryl Fitton at the 2008 PDC Grand Slam of Darts could have been interpreted as indicating that the player did not put maximum effort into every leg of a darts game. Interpretation of words is a subjective matter but such perceptions could damage the trust of fans, viewers, sponsors and promoters.

‘Old pals act’ takes gloss off Taylor’s Grand Slam
Monday, December 01, 2008The Grand Slam begins with a round-robin format consisting of eight groups of four. Two players qualify from each group, with the competition becoming a straight knock-out from the last 16 onwards. On the Tuesday night Darryl Fitton played Gary Anderson in his last group match knowing that a 3-5 defeat would be enough for both players to automatically qualify – thereby rendering the later match between Kevin Painter and Paul Nicholson irrelevant, and eliminating both players.
