Caven's Dublin Delight #darts players championship

JAMIE CAVEN won his second Players Championship of the year, edging out Ronnie Baxter 6-5 in Sunday's final at the Citywest Hotel in Dublin.

The Derby ace followed up his victory in Canada in August with the narrowest of wins against Baxter to take his fourth PDC title, and make the best possible preparation for Monday's Bodog.com World Grand Prix opener against Andy Smith.

Caven could well have suffered defeat in a dramatic final against Baxter, who missed two darts to win the deciding leg before his opponent hit double top at the first time of asking to win the £6,000 first prize.

Whitlock Prevails In Dublin

SIMON WHITLOCK won his fifth Players Championship title of 2010 with a 6-1 defeat of Dennis Priestley in Saturday's event at the Citywest Hotel in Dublin.

The Australian, who picked up four wins in just over a month earlier this year, prepared in ideal fashion for next week's Bodog.com World Grand Prix with the triumph over Priestley.

Walsh Completes 2009 Treble - 13 Jun 2009

MARK WALSH won his third PDC Pro Tour event of 2009 with victory over Jamie Caven in the final of Saturday's Players Championship.

Walsh followed up his victories in Coventry and Derby earlier this year with a battling display at the Barnsley Metrodome to claim the £6,000 title.

He edged out Andy Jenkins 6-5 in the quarter-finals before coming from 5-1 down to defeat Colin Lloyd in a deciding leg in the semis.

Menace Takes Wigan Title - 14 Mar 2009

DENNIS PRIESTLEY won the North-West Players Championship, defeating Colin Lloyd 6-1 in the final.

Priestley continued his superb run of form to reach a third final in as many events over the past two weekends.

Having lost to Robert Thornton twice in finals in Scotland last weekend, he this time claimed the £6,000 first prize at Wigan's Robin Park Tennis Centre. (full report...)

It was James Wade’s first PDC Pro Tour event of the year but the World No.2 bowed out in the quarter-finals of the Players Championship tournament in Irvine.

Wade lost 6-5 to Dennis Priestley, with ‘The Machine’ coming from 5-2 down to force the decider. He then missed one dart for the match only to see Priestley win it with a 103 finish. (full article...)

Taylor back to his best

Phil Taylor gave the perfect response to his first Premier League Darts defeat of the season with victory in both Players Championship events in Germany over the weekend. 'The Power' won all of his 14 matches on Saturday and Sunday in Gladbeck to land his third and fourth Players Championship events of the year.And Taylor was delighted to put his defeat to James Wade in Belfast behind him with two final wins against former protégé Adrian Lewis as he warms up for his next Premier League game against table-topping Mervyn King. Sharp Taylor at the double

Phil Taylor completed a Players Championship double in Germany with a 6-1 victory over Adrian Lewis in Sunday's event.
Taylor had whitewashed Stoke rival Lewis to claim Saturday's £6,000 title, and maintained his dominance over the youngster 24 hours later.

Lewis looked set to suffer a repeat of Saturday's scoreline when Taylor powered into a 5-0 lead in the final, before winning the sixth leg to get off the mark.

DENBIGH darts ace Mark Webster will make his PDC debut this weekend in Germany.

Webby poised for PDC debut

The 2008 Lakeside World Professional Darts champion, who earlier this month left the British Darts Organisation to ply his trade alongside the likes of Phil Taylor and Raymond van Barneveld in the Professional Darts Corporation, will make his bow on the PDC Pro Tour in Gladbeck this Saturday and Sunday, February 28 and March 1.

This will be a Players Championship double-header at the Hotel Van der Valk.

Dennis Priestley celebrated his return to the Circus Tavern with a vintage comeback to defeat Steve Maish at the coral.co.uk Players Championship.

The 58-year-old was the first PDC world champion at the Purfleet venue back in 1994, and showed his quality to come from 3-1 down and take a 6-3 win.

"It was funny being back at the Circus Tavern because I have so many memories," said Priestley, who appeared in a total of five finals at the venue. "It was still hot up on stage but it's nice to be back. (full article...)

TAYLOR: IMAGINE WHAT I’D BE WORTH IF I HAD BECKS APPEAL

The world’s greatest darts player is set to add another £50,000 to his personal fortune this weekend.

“Just imagine what I’d be worth if I had the image of David Beckham,” said Phil ‘The Power’ Taylor.

Taylor, a darts multi-millionaire, is hot favourite to win the Coral.co.uk Players Championship at Purfleet’s famous Circus Tavern, which starts today. He’s the best, but his image still bugs him.

“Sometimes I wish I’d bought the £10,000 suit and had an image like Beckham,” he reflects. “Lost some weight and looked the business.

“I would have earned a lot more, but, look, how do you change a sack of spuds? Had I worn the smart suit I would still look the same.

“Had I lost weight I’d only look like a smaller sack of spuds. I am what I am – a 48-year-old playing darts for a living and loving every minute. I intend to go on as long as I can.

“I have only been in Beckham’s company once and was too shy to go and say hello. I have so much time for him and how he and his wife Victoria handle themselves.

“That’s pressure – he lives with people threatening to kidnap his kids and things like that. He’s a real ambassador for England and I like to think I do my bit.” (full article...)

BARRY HEARN IN DARTS ATTACK

BARRY HEARN used to point Steve Davis, Jimmy White and Ronnie O’Sullivan towards the green baize and walk Chris Eubank, Nigel Benn and Lennox Lewis into the ring.

Now he is happier following world champion Phil ‘The Power’ Taylor on to the oche and shaping the careers of Terry ‘The Bull’ Jenkins and Jelle ‘The Matador’ Klaasen.

On Friday, his darts bandwagon rolls on when the inaugural PDC Players’ Championship starts at the famed Circus Tavern in Purfleet.

Walsh hits first ever nine-dart finish

Mark Walsh hit his first ever nine-dart finish at the Eddie Cox Memorial Players Championship.
Walsh, who hails from Abbots Langley, was knocked out in the last eight of the competition, losing 6-4 to Colin Osborne in Gibraltar.

But the 43-year-old had reason to smile as he pocketed a cool £1,600 for his check out in the deciding leg of his 1st round win over Jamie Caven.

The tournament was eventually won by Phil Taylor,in his first competitive outing since claiming the Ladbrokes.com World Darts Championship earlier this month. (story source link...)
