#darts Justin Pipe is some kind of newcomer on the #PDC

Circuit and the third player sponsored by the SOD forum.

He's a very nice person and a really good darter - he won the qualifier for the Grand Slam and qualified for the PDC World Championship over the Players Championship Order of Merit.

As probably not many already know him I talked to him during the Grand Slam.
Here you can find the interview:

Plenty of choice for the dart player this weekend.

Latest news from the double16 site.

I have decided that I am going to start giving away some of the darts that
I have as monthly prizes. We now have a points system installed on the site
so for every new post that you put on you get points. The person with the
most points at the end of the month will receive a set of darts from me.
This will start as of September  1st but people are already having fun with
it!

Enjoy the Bank Holiday weekend

SEWA-DARTS.COM has launched it's first newsletter....

From: Team SEWA World! Might be you stumbled as some of us did on the SEWA Homepage over the sentence: “Subscribe to the SEWA newsletter”. The sentence has disappeared in the meantime because till now no newsletter existed. It was a project Erik had on mind when he founded the SEWA forum but somehow it never happened and in the end was forgotten. But those of us who had stumbled over it thought a newsletter would be not a bad idea or at least something one could try. Of course a newsletter for a forum is a little bit tricky – a newsletter announces what is new on a site. But what really is “new” in a forum? Should we announce new discussions? New topics discussed? Is that really something not active members or active members would be interested to know? Should we announce something like: At the moment we discuss Phil Taylor´s throw come and join us? Or: zeeple has a used set of vintage darts to sell – come and have a look? We were not sure people what would really be interested in this…. In the end we decided what we could do was to pick up current topics in the article or review section – might be even write an article like I did with my LVDC article or George Silberzahn did with his Fable and combine this with the forums topics. This first newsletter is still a work in progress – we’re new to authoring a newsletter and to be sure we’ll improve and learn during the venture. We decided to publish it in time for a really important event – the Las Vegas Desert Classics – and of course want to include another very important event – the Pacmania II. Here it is – we hope you’ll enjoy it and you’ll get curious enough to log into SEWA! Charis George Silberzahn thought about the situation of the sport of darts in America and the result is a fable which starts like this: How Darts came and went: a Fable In the year 1960 there were a lot of bars and saloons and not many taverns or pubs and bars were gathering places for mostly neighborhood residents and the same people populated the bar stools night after night. Some bars had a brass foot rail still and some had a spittoon still and a few had a Lady’s entrance with tables & chairs still and beer & whisky was sold mostly and there were wicker baskets with pretzels on the bar and some sold sandwiches and some had soup and these were mostly gathering places for working people. Some bars had a ring suspended from the ceiling by a string and a large hook on the wall and this was a game where people would see who could swing the ring onto the hook. And some bars had shuffle boards & decks of cards for those so inclined and the game of knobles was played with coins and those in the game would guess at the total number held by all and bumper pool showed up and there were lots of games with which people occupied themselves. And bars had a dart board. Read on here: http://sewa-darts.com/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=904

Might be it will be the last Las Vegas Desert Classics though now Dartoid tells us it will not be the case – here some kind of a review: The Las Vegas Desert Classics For me the Las Vegas Desert Classics though a PDC tournament always were an American tournament – probably because Las Vegas for me is some kind of embodiment of America. Funny enough or might be in the end not really funny is that from my outside view the Americans never really adopted the tournament – the qualifier is still after all those years dominated by the British PDPA players and it never attracted the American masses to watch – it´s really not well known for a lot of atmosphere it´s more the opposite to the Premier League evenings which have got almost too much. Read on here: http://sewa-darts.com/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=903&mode=&order=0&thold=0

This year a sporting hero from a totally different kind of sport discovered his liking for darts, Manny Paquino, and he started to support darts with organising tournaments offering quite some price money. It looks there´ll be more of those tournaments called Pacmania. Find out more about Pacmania II and read what is planned in future. http://sewa-darts.com/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=905 http://sewa-darts.com/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=906 http://sewa-darts.com/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=907 http://sewa-darts.com/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=908

A few months ago in England a new darts magazine was published the first time: “We love Darts”.
Now already the fourth issue will be on the market and one hears a lot of enthusiastic comments. On SEWA you can find a review! http://sewa-darts.com/modules.php?name=Reviews&rop=showcontent&id=41

Another a lot discussed publication was Barneys “The Eye Of The Tiger”. Barney’s biography was first published two years ago in Holland. Now one can buy an English version. You can read more about the book here: http://sewa-darts.com/modules.php?name=Reviews&rop=showcontent&id=42

But that’s not all the SEWA news: Erik wrote a review of A.C.E. Moveable Points (http://sewa-darts.com/modules.php?name=Reviews&rop=showcontent&id=40)

Taechon tells us what he thinks of dart books (http://sewa-darts.com/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=902) and in the tournament forum you find a lot about the Pacmania while all LVDC news and updates will be posted in the PDC America forum. And there’ll be a LVDC Trivia contest with a great special prize for the winner! In the future all newsletters will only be sent to those who’ve ‘subscribed’ to receive them but I took the liberty to send to all registered users this one time in hopes that you might now subscribe to get future newsletters as Charis, Dart_Talker, George Silberzahn and other work to provide additional copies. Thanks Erik - Team SEWA World! Staff ==============================

from the email stack... Global Darts Forum - "it’s time to close GDF down..."

The following is an email sent to you by an administrator of "Global Darts Forum".
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This is the 2nd and last time this mass email will go out.
Yes after a good run I have come to the decision that it’s time to close GDF down, this has NOT been influenced by anyone or Dart body (as some may thing I have been ‘persuaded to shutdown”) but is solely my own decision based on the site going dead and the monthly cost of keeping it alive for 2-4 members to post.
The site will close down approx 1st -5th May so please join The dartboard before the GDF closes!
However all is not lost! Nick Williams (Nick is owner of “The Dartboard- darts forum”) and I have come up with a few idea’s and have put an “Aussie” section in his forum to make all GDF members at home as well Nick has ALOT of other great threads, subjects on offer so please join up post in the Aussie section then check out his great forum.
http://mistadouble.proboards.com/index.cgi
I know you will treat Nicks forum like the GDF and Nick and his moderators are always around to help, even try out the prediction leagues as you can win a prize! Fortunately or unfortunately (depends on who you are) I will be there as have been a member there before I even got GDF off the ground, Nicks forum has been going since 1999.
Fans' Backing For Eccles
TONY ECCLES has secured a unique sponsorship, which will see him backed by a consortium of fans in 2009.
The Superstars of Darts internet forum saw over 100 members purchase £25 shares in the scheme, before voting on which player would receive almost £4,000 in sponsorship.
Eccles picked up 40 percent of the votes in the third round of voting to win the sponsorship, ahead of Chris Mason, Kirk Shepherd and Remco van Eijden. (full article...)
The Superstars of Darts newsletter - Feb. 25, 2009
The Superstars of Darts newsletter - SPECIAL EDITION
****
Welcome to a special edition of the Superstars of Darts newsletter.
As you may or may not know, Superstars of Darts Forum Members have come
up with the idea of sponsoring or part sponsoring a player, probably on
the PDC circuit.
The idea is that collectively and with an individual investment of as
little as £25 per year, the funds raised could contribute towards the
costs of accommodation, entry fees and travel for a player without a
main sponsor.
If you would like to participate in the scheme, please post on the below
thread at Superstars of Darts and also you will find much more
information about this concept and how it will work.
http://www.starsofdarts.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=14617
We don't charge a fee for this regular newsletter and also all forum
running costs are covered by sponsors, so if you'd like to use this
programme as a mechanism to indirectly support Superstars of Darts -
while helping a player - please do.
Through the scheme a designated player will wear a patch recognising the
SoD forum sponsorship and funds will be administered by the PDPA, as
confirmed by its Chief Executive Alan Warriner-Little.
The rest of this newsletter is turned over to various players and
individuals who have commented on this scheme and what it could mean.
******
Rising PDC star Jamie "JABBA" Caven says :
"I think the idea to sponsor a player is a great idea, as with the
current financial situation we are in, it sees us struggling to capture
a corporate sponsor or a main sponsor. Many players are struggling to
finance their chosen profession - and I'm no different. I do have a
sponsor (Mr Tax Ltd) but that amount is only a small amount (around
£100-£200) per month - so that covers 1 or 2 entry fees - and it helps
and I'm very greatful for that. The rest is made up of any winnings that
I recieve, so the added chance to obtain an extra hand from the forum is
a massive boost for whoever the chosen one is. I think it would take a
bit of pressure off as the pro tour now is more important due to the
fact that there will be no qualifiers at the beginning of December for
Alexandra Palace."
Tony Eccles "The Viper" adds :
"I think that the idea of the forum members clubbing together and
sponsoring a dart player is a great idea. With the current economical
climate it is extremely difficult to obtain sponsors and so pay the high
costs to keep on the PDC tour. I currently am full time professsional
and without a sponsor I am really struggling. My last event was the
Player Championships and so I have not earned anything for one month
until my next tournament. Exhibitions are hard to come by as well, as
most fans are booking the players who are in the public eye the most. So
the Premier League guys normally clean up as they are on TV every week.
With entry fees going to £100, a few extra pounds would go along way.
The total cost for entries alone this year is £4000 so even covering
half of that would be a massive help to a famliy man like me."
New PDC player and former World Champion Andy Fordham also adds his
support to the campaign :
"This is a terrific idea and I think it will be a massive boost for
players with potential who are not yet in the public eye or those
without a main sponsor. The cost of playing on the Pro Tour is not cheap
and covering some of the expenses in this way will help relieve the
pressure somewhat. It is great that fans of the sport have found a way
they can support Darts and help a struggling player."
PDPA board member, PDC Player and TV commentator Chris "Mace The Ace"
Mason shares his views:
"I think the whole idea is a fantastic one that could get an up and
coming player on the ladder to success. Selection of the events to
invest the 2k in is of utmost importance, I think the player should
compete in the double header weekends, as that gives an almost instant
chance of success via the UK Open. With the current economic situation
securing any kind of financial backing is almost impossible, so the
lucky chosen one will be very fortunate. Let's not forget how Phil
Taylor got his big break - let's hope just 10% of that success is
achieved."
A final word from one of the organisers of this project, PDPA member
Dave Ahmet :
"Dear members,
I would just like to thank all the forum members who have thrown their
weight behind this project. I see it as a very exciting opportunity for
players and fans alike and hope that it will continue to grow over the
coming months and maybe years. The offers of project support have been
quite overwhelming and we have quite a collective expertise at our
disposal, which includes sports journalists, IT, sports promotion,
accountants and solicitors, not to mention starsofdarts.com which has
been our platform for the development of this project.
So far we have 62 members that have pledged their support and I am
expecting this to translate into approximately £2000. We are hoping to
attract some more interest until we have to close this years round in
about a weeks time.
I would then hope that during the following week we will begin to
collect the money with the help of the PDPA, who have also offered
administrative support. Once all cash has been collected, we will begin
the first round of voting for the player we want to support.
Thank you"
******
Thanks for your interest and full information is on the below linked
thread and don't forget to post saying that you are interested in
supporting this idea!
January Superstars of Darts online newsletter
You will have to subscribe to get this newsletter...
Welcome to the January Superstars of Darts online newsletter. Two
successful World Championships have now been completed with massive
numbers of television viewers recorded as well as record breaking
numbers on the Superstars forum.
An average of 3 million viewers watched the BDO World Championship final
between Ted Hankey and Tony O'Shea, roughly the same figure as last year
with half a million or so also tuning in from Holland.
As for the PDC World Championhip over 800,000 watched the Taylor /
Barneveld clash on Sky Sports, the third highest number in the
tournament's history and over a million viewers from Holland watched a
live broadcast.
The Superstars of Darts forum saw its record number of users online at
any particular moment broken shortly after the Taylor / Barneveld clash,
only for the record to be smashed again shortly after the Lakeside final
(495 users online at once!).
*
Rumours abound regarding potential movers to the PDC. Andy Fordham the
former BDO World Champion has joined the PDC and will take part on the
Pro Tour from the end of February. I am sure well wishes go out to Andy
who has had to overcome some severe health issues in recent years and we
all hope he enjoys the new challenge of playing on the PDC Pro Tour.
Three further movers are expected to sign up in January, watch the forum
for details!
*
Could there be Darts on the way to Channel 5?
Robert Charles, Channel 5's Head of Sport was spotted at the Alexandra
Palace, so again keep your eyes peeled for any developments on this
front and remember, you heard it here first!
*
Maybe not all good news on the televised Darts front. While it seems
sure that Setanta will be broadcasting a second series of The League of
Legends this summer, this appears to be the only darts they will show
this year.
At this moment in time no new home for the BDO tournaments covered last
year has been announced.
*
We didn't see much of top American player Ray Carver last year. The
reason being that he was spending time with his new baby daughter.
Ray is now keen to get back on the circuit and resume his travels to the
UK and is on the hunt for additional sponsorship to enable him to do
this.
Let's hope it all pans out well for "Razor". He is possibly the best
American player on his day and it would be great to see him back on the
pro circuit.
*
Maybe there was a slight exaggeration as to how cold the Doncaster venue
was on the first day of the PDC pro tour for 2009. In any case there was
Ice Skating on offer for those who wanted to warm up with some brisk
exercise.
The cold certainly didn't stop Adrian Lewis either, who reportedly hit 8
x 180s in 7 legs in the early stages. Perhaps he should be the successor
to the 'Ice Man' nickname?!
Sky Sports News were at the event and Wayne Mardle, Anastasia
Dobromyslova and Jelle Klaasen had interviews shown on television. The
day's results also made the Sky Sports on screen news ticker - possibly
a first for the pro tour and proof that Darts appeal is just getting
bigger and bigger.
*
Don't forget that you have a chance to put a question to PDC Chairman
Barry Hearn as part of an interview that Barry has agreed to give our
forum members.
http://www.starsofdarts.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=14026
*
Finally we will be launching our Unicorn sponsored Premier League Darts
prediction competition in a couple of weeks, so keep your eyes on the
forum.
Essentially you have to enter your predictions every week and the
ultimate winner will be able to select a heap of prizes from the Unicorn
product range.
IDL and WDT Press Release
BRITISH DARTS ORGANISATION Press Release issued 13/4/07
OUT OF COURT SETTLEMENT SECURES THE RIGHTS OF BDO/WDF PLAYERS IN IDL AND WDT
An out of court settlement securing the rights of BDO/WDF players in the two top Dutch tournaments – the Topic International Darts League and World Darts Trophy – was finalised yesterday by the British Darts Organisation.
This follows the BDO decision to issue a writ in the District Court of Amsterdam against promoter Maximum Score BV and broadcaster SBS Broadcasting BV requiring them to abide by their obligations in the Participation Agreement that the BDO signed with them in August 2006.
The Participation Agreement guaranteed that at least 28 BDO/WDF players will participate in the 2007 IDL and WDT events, but up until yesterday (April 12) afternoon such participation remained in jeopardy
The Dartboard - NEW Global Darts Forum Board!!!
Hi everyone. OMG your saying.. NOT another one from Wazza :???: Well unfortunately that is true Due to the amount of spammers attempting to get into the forum . I have taken it upon myself to build a totally new Forum which also has a Photo Gallery in it where you can submit your own photo's also we have a World Wide flashchat room.
The forums themselves have changed and may take some time to find posts but the forums are relatively simple now, The Site name is still the same but you will have to re-register (if you so desire, if you do not register then I will understand). ALL registrations have to be activated. I will supply all avatars for you, just remind me of what avatar you would like to have on your profile!
Sorry for any inconvenience to members of the old board (the horrid green and gold one) I have only been able to post the posts I made in the old forum (yes copy n paste)... NOT VERY THRILLING indeed. Hopefully I will with great anticipation look forward to seeing most of you that were/are members re-register and post as before.
