A new #darts blog....

Darter Noster
Theology PhD student and darts fan. This blog is about darts, a sport I've always loved watching, played as a kid and am trying to take up again. This blog will cover professional darts, the trials and tribulations of me trying to play darts, and anything dart-related in between.

UniBoffin 25th January 2010 in UniBlog: Lowe Resolution

Now the New Year is traditionally a time for resolutions, so I guess it’s appropriate I begin this one by resolving some issues left over from my last uniBlog of 2009. Future offerings can then happily revert to my more customary fare of new darts technology, old flight dynamic theory, and appalling puns. Bet you can’t wait! (click to read more...)

Blinking Scientist-uniBoffin - uniBlog 12/03/2009

So, apologies that it’s been a while since I’ve been with you, but sometimes we research scientists have to lock ourselves away in the vaults of Minas Tirith to study ancient scrolls (OK, do some research!). This time, however, as I emerged blinking into the sunlight, I noticed that more time had passed than usual. So much so, in fact, that Spring is now here and it’s thus the time of year when a not-so-young flight dynamicist’s thoughts should turn to designing new darts for the winter catalogue.

Of course, as I try to explain to the Big Boss, the problem with designing scientifically optimised darts is that it’s hard to come up with improvements based on theory alone. (full blog post...)

K is for the knocked out

K is for the knocked out

It was the first Dart Club of 2003 and boy was it going to be a biggy. In fact, it would be the biggest Dart Club thus far. This kind of information is usually reserved for the tail-end of a chapter but dartweek 11 would see an unprecedented 28 darters take part.

Malice at the Palace
Posted by Paul Seigel04/01/2009 20:00:00

Last night, between re-reading and my mortification at all the typographical errors in yesterday’s furiously written column about the semi-finals and trying to find a good kebab, I had a chance to do more than just admire the photographs of Helen Chamberlain and Juicy Lucy in the first issue of the ...... The 2009 World Championship – Semi Finals
Posted by Paul Seigel04/01/2009

There is a scene in David Nobbs’ Cupid’s Dart (Arrow Books, 2008) where Oxford philosophy professor Alan Calcutt happens upon the World Darts Championship on television. He’s recently hooked up with darts groupie, Angie Bedwell, half his age and is anticipating an upcoming date where together they w...... Read full uniBlog

From... American Darts Blog

While it’s true that along with poker, pool and darts are the main games of rec rooms across America, I haven’t seen anyone tackle the differences between the two games. And specifically, give the top 5 reasons that darts are better than pool.

So, I thought I’d do it . . .

Reason #5 : It Takes Less Room - A friend of mine has the ultimate man cave, complete with 8 person bar, televisions, bar sink, kegmeister, refrigerator, etc. Swap that dartboard out for a pool table, and you’ll be left with the tv’s. It’s no fun having a rec room where you have to stand. (full entry...)

Happy Halloween to all dart players! The board pictured to the left was found on the Goldieloo Woodworks website.

The first big tournament for New Jersey area darters in 2009 is the $26,500.00+ Rae Chesney English Dart Tournament in Philadelphia. The flyer recently appeared on the PhillyDarts website,

iGoogle Darts Theme (post link)

Just like most things I seem to come across, iGoogle had no themes for darts. So, just like the screen savers I made for my phone, PDA and laptop I decided that needs to be addressed and submitted a darts theme.

New Jersey Darts: Masters Regional Report and American Baseball Darts

Last Saturday the American Dart Organization had its Regional Qualifiers for the World Masters Nationals. Winners advance to the National Finals in Charlotte, NC, where they compete with other winners for a chance to represent the U.S. in the World Masters International Dart Tournament in England. I had to miss this year because I have a big teaching gig in Baltimore on the date of the National Finals. However, Dave Hascup and Tom Waterman attended and reported the men's results.

JOHN PART - BLOG: Pairs Pecking Order

If you have not visited John Part's Blog, it's time to stop by and take a look:

Garry asks who led off in Vegas between Wes and I. An interesting question, not so much for the answer, but for the whys and wherefores. I have partnered many of the very best. I've had successful partnerships in no particular order with Dan Olson, Mick Manning, Mitch Payton, Paul Lim, Gary Mawson, Steve Brown, Doug Scanlon, and a host of other one or two time partnerships.

North East UK Open Regional
The first tournament of the new year was on January 6th in Tynemouth. I hadn't managed to practise too much since Christmas, due to a pain I keep getting in my elbow, so I wasn't too confident. In the 1st Round I played Paul Everson. I started well, going 2-0 up quite easily,...
