Monroe — With an almost imperceptible flick of his wrist, Brendan O’Dowd tossed a dart toward the target. The dart rose slightly during its brief seven foot, nine and one-quarter inch flight, then lost altitude slightly. And - thwap - it came to rest in the bull’s eye, a circular space just a half-inch in diameter at the center of the board.

Unicorn - The Premier League dream is over
But Phil Taylor powers on…..he demolished Lloyd to secure top spot ahead of the play-offs and extend that remarkable unbeaten Premier League run to 40 matches.
The top four for the semi-finals in Brighton will feature Taylor, Raymond Van Barneveld, Dennis Priestley and Terry Jenkins. Mathematically, Roland Scholten could still catch Priestley but he would have to win his final two matches 8-0 or 8-1 and hope Priestley loses his last two games by the same score…..realistically, that isn’t going to happen.

Unicorn: NOSTALGIA TIME AT CARDIFF Sid Waddell uniBlog
I recalled, happily, for several Welsh newspapers the great days of Alan Evans and Leighton Rees, the two men who really put darts on the map in the late 1970s and early 80s. Their flamboyance, character and skill at the Indoor League and on other telly darts grabbed the public imagination. So I was delighted to get a warm letter from Alan’s daughter Claire and her husband Mark thanking me for keeping his name alive. Take it from me, if there had been a Premier League in 1980 Evans and Rees would have been in it – along with Brissy and Lobo. Who do you reckon would have been the other four?

Northants ET NEWS - Darts star is on target for pupils
Adrian Lewis, who currently ranks at world number five on the Professional Darts Corporation championship, is taking his tour to a special fundraising night being held at the Grampian Club in Corby on Wednesday, April 25.
The event has been organised by county darts player Shellie Ruthven, 29, who is aiming to hit big cash numbers for the designated special provision unit based at Beanfield Primary School, where she has worked as a teaching assistant for the last five years.
The player from Gainsborough Road, Corby, said: "Money is always needed for more equipment at the school and we are hoping to raise £1,300 for a specially-adapted bike for the pupils.
"I have been to a lot of these darts charity nights and they do raise a lot of money, so I thought it would be a good idea.
"This way I am combining something that I love with helping provide equipment for the job I love."
Miss Ruthven, who is one of 12 women in the 36-member Northamptonshire darts team, has been playing darts for the past 12 years.
The event, which is being held in the main hall of the social club on Patrick Road, will include an exhibition from the top ranking player as well as raffles. Audience members will have the chance to try and outplay the professional. Miss Ruthven said: "It is going to be a great night and is not just for darts enthusiasts – it will have something for everyone."
The Grampian Club has donated use of its hall free of charge. All proceeds from the night will be going to the school. Tickets for the event cost £5 and can be bought by calling 01536 744811 or 07901 840262.

Darin Young has locked in one of the Wild Cards with a commanding lead of 118. Depending on the number of entries, John Kuczunski is the only one who could catch Young. Kuczynski is in the second position with 104 points and is likely to earn the second Wild Card. Gary Mawson is in third place with 98 BEN Pro Ranking points. Ray Carver is the only person close enough to catch Mawson and possibly Kuzcynski if there are enough entries. Carver has 89 points on the chart.

Van Barneveld, who hit a famous nine-dart leg in last year's clash with Manley at the BIC, told the Daily Echo: "I was playing really well in practice backstage and then up on stage, my darts were going off course. I think there was something wrong with the air conditioning.

Unicorn - News: POWER SURGE AS LEWIS STOPS THE ROT
And at last, there was something for Adrian Lewis to smile about, as the young Unicorn star ended his five-game losing streak – and ended the Colin Lloyd revival.
There’s just no stopping Taylor, who demolished Terry Jenkins 8-1 with a display that sent out a message that he is back to his very best.
“I feel good and am getting really fit and it’s showing in my darts,” he said. That’s an understatement! Taylor averaged 107 and was 7-0 up in the blink of an eye, before Jenkins finally got on the board. It made no difference, as the 13-times World Champion produced exhibition darts for the sell-out crowd on the South coast. Unicorn - News: POWER SURGE AS LEWIS STOPS THE ROT

Highlights will be available in DartsTV from Friday evening.
Holsten Premier League Darts
Night Ten, Bournemouth
Peter Manley 7-7 Raymond van Barneveld
Colin Lloyd 5-8 Adrian Lewis
Roland Scholten 7-7 Dennis Priestley
Phil Taylor 8-1 Terry Jenkins
Planet Darts: Wk 10 Holsten Premier League Darts
DENNIS Priestley had the look of a man who'd lost a pound but found a penny, even though some good old Yorkshire grit earned him a 7-7 draw with Roland Scholten.
In a nip-and-tuck encounter, the willowy frame of the Dutchman Scholten and his fluid technique appeared to have Priestley's number, particularly with a flurry of 180 starts as he piled the pressure on the double world champion.
But Priestley, who led 4-2 and then trailed 6-4, showed some of his old magic as he eventually clawed his way back into the contest with his slow and methodical throwing style taking out a crucial 127 finish to tie the match at 6-6. Thisisdorset
Peter Manley frustrated Raymond van Barneveld in the opening match of the Bournemouth meet in the Premier League, coming from behind to draw 7-7 against the World Champion. For the majority of the contest it looked like the Dutch destroyer would ease to victory, particularly after building a 4-2 lead midway through the contest.

People love to poke fun at darts.....
As a hobby, darts has its finer points
A reader who was concerned about my lack of hobbies has suggested that I take up darts.
I must admit, he builds a convincing case:
1) You are never more than a few steps away from the refrigerator.
2) A dart is light, unlike a 16-pound bowling ball.
3) Unlike golf, which requires you to trudge around for hours under a baking sun, darts can be played indoors in air-conditioned comfort.
4) If you get winded playing darts, you can take a nap in your nearby recliner.
5) Not only are you allowed to drink beer while playing darts, it is virtually mandatory.
6) You are unlikely to sustain any knee injuries or torn ligaments while playing darts unless you fall down on your way to the bar.
7) You can play darts alone or, if you have any, with friends.
8) A dart board costs far less than a titanium driver.
9) You do not need to run or lift weights in order to have the stamina necessary to play darts. If you have a pulse, you're basically ready to go.
10) You can gamble.
The reader said he wanted to hang his dartboard in his living room so he'd be close to the TV and his recliner. Unfortunately his wife, who clearly has no sense of décor, wouldn't let him do it, so his board now hangs in his bedroom. He said it worked out better than he expected because now, when he becomes fatigued from flipping little feathered missiles all of seven feet, he can topple right onto his bed.
I used to play darts as a kid, but I never got any good at it because I lacked the patience. Our board was in the basement and I quickly learned that it was more fun to throw the darts at the wall, the washing machine or any small rodents that happened to scamper by.
Sometimes I would go out to a nearby field and see how far I could throw a dart. It was sort of the nerd's equivalent of the javelin toss. I lost all of my darts in about five minutes, so I went back to watching TV, which struck me as far less exhausting.
Another problem I had with "real" darts was the math. In real darts, you start out with 501 points and work your way backward. The first one to reach zero wins. So let's say you hit a triple 19. In your head, you have to multiply 19 times 3, then subtract the sum from 501. I don't know about you, but I can't perform these calculations without taking my shoes off, which seriously slows the game. Add a few pints of Guinness and your opponent will have nodded off before you come up with your score.
But that is just a minor quibble. I am willing to have my math skills challenged if nachos are part of the deal.
I'm going on a golf trip to Scotland next month so there's a good chance that darts is (are?) in my future. My guess is that I will lose many pounds during the competitions, though unfortunately I'm talking about currency, not flab.
I just hope the pubs have recliners.

All the fun of the oche

Listen to any pundit and they'll tell you how their favourite sport is a thinking man's game. We've heard the view spouted about cricket, football, rugby, formula one... Of course, no one ever mentions chess.
Anyway, when it comes down the pinnacle of sporting mind-over-matter, it has to be darts; quite literally, due to the relative weight difference between the head and belly of the participants.
That's good enough reason for Sega to have some fun with Touch Darts, a game where the flick of your stylus promises to emulate the wrist action of a Barney van Barneveld or a Phil 'The Power' Taylor.
Indeed, the sport's interest in larger-than-characters will be further emulated in Touch Darts with the inclusion of outrageously extroverted cartoon avatars, although even with the promised 'healthy dash of artistic licence' we doubt there be an 'Andy Fordman, 25 bottles of lager' option.
Bizarre mini-games and head-to-head wireless multiplayer modes are promised, however.
Sharpening its arrows, Sega says Touch Darts is due to be released sometime this summer.

Quality Problems With Unicorn Eclipse Pro? - SEWA-darts.com
However I must say that we purchased 6 Unicorn Eclipse Pros last June, and all are functioning great without any of the issues in the above link. Four of the boards are in daily use while two are only used on league nights. In past we have used a variety of boards and in my experience the Unicorn dartboards compare favorably with the NODOR Supawires. This leads me to believe that the recent issues might be due to the rapidly increasing demand for any Unicorn boards.

Three regulars managed to get the better of the former world champion who has just returned from a ten-day tour to Holland.
