Sport - Dearne Today: : "PRIESTLEY AIMS FOR ELITE STATUS

"PRIESTLEY AIMS FOR ELITE STATUS
by Chris Brammer
MEXBOROUGH'S Dennis Priestley hopes a good performance at the forthcoming Stan James World Matchplay tournament will elevate him into darts' elite.
Priestley of Church Street, takes on qualifier Alan Tabern, ranked 69th in the world, in a best of 19 legs first-round match in Blackpool on Sunday.
Said Priestley: 'I am throwing alright at the moment. It is all about being able to score doubles, score points and being to put both games together, if I can do that, then I am a game for anybody.
'I am aiming to get a bit higher in the rankings so we can have a Mexborough representative in the Premier League which is chosen after the Grand Prix has finished, so I am looking for a good performance there and also in Ireland (Ireland Open).'
The Premier League consists of seven of the world's top players who play each other twice in a unique league format, over 12 legs."
