The Cumberland News

"By Stan Launder

PAUL McGimpsey, one of Scotland's four elite players selected for the Europe Cup tournament last weekend in Ireland, came away from the illustrious meeting with a coveted gold medal.

This remarkable achievement was due to Paul and his partner Paul Hanvidge winning the doubles tournament at the expense of the Finnish pair of Marko Kantele and Jarko Kommula by a convincing scoreline of 4-0.

This was a notable win for the two Pauls as they would start the event as Scotland's second most fancied pair as BDO world No 1 Gary Anderson and team captain Mike Veitch were thre other two players in the Scotland four.

Much earlier in the event Paul and Paul had put out the very highly rated Dutch pair of Co Stompe and Neils de Ruiter - again very powerfully - by 4-1. The Cumberland News: "
