THERE aren’t many people who can say they’ve beaten a world champion at his very own game.
But that is exactly what happened when darts star Ted Hankey, fresh from his second BDO World Championship win in January, stepped up to the oche at the Railway pub in Ormskirk.
Fuelled by pints of lager and the promise of a kebab at the end of the night, “The Count”, as he is known by his legions of fans, spent five hours at the Derby Street establishment on Sunday, challenging all who dared, signing autographs and posing for pictures, and even raffling two of his trademark capes for charity.
