Maish has it licked at the Magnum Centre

STEVE Maish enjoyed a rollercoaster weekend on the oche at Irvine’s Magnum Centre in Scotland.

The Southend darts professional plunged to a disappointing 4-0 defeat to Brendan Dolan in the opening round of the PartyPoker.com Grand Slam of Darts on Friday evening.

But the 44-year-old was in much better form on Saturday night, beating John Quantock (3-1), Wayne Mardle (3-1), Mick MacGowan (3-1), Tony Ayres (3-2) and Andy Jenkins (3-1) on the way to the semi-finals of the Scottish Players Championship.

Maish’s cheque for £1,250 has almost certainly guaranteed him a place at the 2009 Ladbrokes.com World Championship, while the man nicknamed “Mr Magic” is also set to appear at the inaugural Players Championship Finals at Purfleet’s Circus Tavern in January. (story source...)

And Maish was at it again on Sunday at the same venue in the second Scottish Players Championship tournament of the weekend, beating Steve Cusick (3-1), Gary Blades (3-0), Mick MacGowan (3-2) and former world number one Colin Lloyd (3-2) before being knocked out by Mervyn King at the fourth round stage.
