THE Weigh Inn in Thurso hosted the local qualifier for the John Smith National Darts Championship last Saturday with a small but quality field playing to qualify for the next round which will played in Bishop Auckland, County Durham.
Staxigoe's Richard Thain made his trip to Thurso worthwhile when two 17-dart legs and a tops twice outshot gave him a notable win over Stewart Tait in the first quarter-final. Thomas Mulraine played a blinder with a 13-dart leg and overpowered Dale Taylor, the only Thurso player in the contest, also in the quarter-finals, before coming to grief at the hands of Thain in the first semi.
