Extravaganza comes to Minot

Many of the top pool and dart players will be in the Magic City this weekend for an event known as the Extravaganza.

Brad Lommen of LaFleur and Son expects over 1,100 players to converge on the Holiday Inn for the gigantic event.

"In the pool (competition), there are 64 open teams and 16 women's teams," Lommen said. "In the darts, there are 172 teams spread out into five different divisions based on their skill level."

Action gets under way Friday at 7 p.m. and will run from 9 a.m. to midnight Saturday.

The contestants will be battling for a top prize of $1,200 in the pool tourney and $500 in the top dart division.

"All of the dart teams are mixed so you have at least two women on each team." Lommen said. "That brings a little more excitement to the game."

Lommen said the tournament should provide a boost to the local economy.

"I would say 50-60 perent of the teams are from out of town, and everyone has to stay someplace and eat and get gas," he said.
