DARTS: MIDDLETON’S Mark Holden reached the final of the Manchester Log-End Federation’s individual championship, held in Moston on Sunday, but then went down 3-1 to Neil Hunter from Burnage.
Rhodes-based Holden, who qualified for the event by becoming individual champion of the Cheetham Hill Log-End League last season, won his group with emphatic victories over the champions from the Hyde Tuesday League, Dukinfield League, Urmston League and Oldham Independent League.
He then beat Martin Lomas from the Ashton League - winner in 2008 - before going down to South Manchester League champion Hunter in the final.
The winner pocketed £300, while Holden picked up £150.
A 14-darter from Frank Morson was the highlight in the Middleton Men’s Monday League last week. It helped his Albion team beat the Millbeck 4-3.
Leaders Joiners whitewashed Carters, while second-placed Gardeners Arms (Sandy Lane) defeated Lancashire Fold 5-2.
Friendship won 4-3 at the White House to restore their lead in the Middleton Men’s Thursday League.
They are two points in front of Grove (Blackley) who had no game.
White Hart improved their chances of finishing in third place with a 7-0 whitewash of Charlestown.
Among the other contenders, Woodside beat Duke of Wellington 5-2 and Gardeners Arms pipped Victoria 4-3.
Heavy snow put paid to most games in the Middleton Ladies League, but Assheton Arms braved the conditions to win 4-3 at the Oddfellows.
