Niels de Ruiter might not be the Dutchman that everyone had come to marvel at, but he pulled off a stirring comeback to defeat Gary Robson 5-4 last night. De Ruiter was never ahead in a fascinating encounter until the third leg of the final set, but he will play in his first semi-final of the BDO World Championships today.
There seemed to be no way back for De Ruiter when he went two sets down, but he displayed fighting qualities at the Lakeside Country Club in Frimley Green, Surrey. It might take an inspired performance to stop him becoming the third consecutive Dutchman to take the title tomorrow.
