Runcorn Apec Taxis Darts League.

After taking over at the top of Section Three the previous week, Croft slipped to second place after last Thursday night’s 6-3 defeat to fourth placed RAOB Buffs and with only this week’s final league fixtures to be played, Dev Superstars have made themselves strong favourites to take the Section Championship, after comprehensively beating next to the bottom Pavilions 8-1. Third placed Castle Top suffered their third consecutive defeat when losing out 5-4 to Stonecutters, whilst fifth placed Wanderers lost their local derby match against Outcasts 6-3. Bolton team The Tup made it seven league defeats on the run when losing out 5-4 to Prospect Has Beens. Navvy Lads are now strong favourites to take the Section Two title when they whitewashed bottom team Hallwooders 9-0, but second placed Addy Lads kept their hopes alive when they beat next to the bottom Flying Wickets 7-2. Jolly Brewer’s James Murray hit the Section’s only maximum and his team are still in with a chance of the ruuner-up spot after beating Tricorn 6-3. fourth and fifth placed Halfway Mixed and Halton Marauders lost any chance they had of the runner up spot when they were beaten 7-2 by Navigation and 6-3 by Fiddlers III respectively. The Fiddlers III win included a 102 finish from Andy McCulloch. Albion retained their two points lead over local rivals Navvy when beating Section One opponents Total Confusion 7-2, but the losers remain in third place. Albion’s best came from Garry Johnson and Phil Littler, who finished in 16 and 19 darts respectively. Navvy were 3-0 down to Roundhouse at one stage, but rallied to take the remaining six games. Halfway Gents now find themselves in fourth place ahead of Roundhouse after a 19 dart game from Steve McKay helped his team to beat Railway B 6-3. Dock Lads were able to move off the foot of the table after beating Halfway a 5-4. Once again the losers were short of players but Neil Connor gained some consolation when he finished in the quickest game of the week in 14 darts. John Glover (Roundhouse) hit a maximum for the second week running in an 18 dart game whilst Stuart Bousfield (Navvy) also finished in 18 and team mate Ian Darlington took just 15 which included a 120 finish. The first rounds of the Committee Section Challenge Cup took place last Friday night and in Section One Pat McKee (Dock Lads) had a 14 dart 501 double game. Paul Edwards and Keith Massey (Halfway Gents) finished their doubles game in 18 darts whilst Gary Roberts (Roundhouse) produced a 124 finish. In Section Two both Flying Wickets and Halton Marauders were unable to raise a team, whilst Mike Smith hit a 15 dart game which included a 102 finish in helping Fiddlers III to a 5-4 win against Addy Lads. In Section Three Castle Top’s 5-4 win against Wanderers included a 17 dart game from Steve Shackleton and a 19 dart doubles game from Donna Bourn and Dave Crowe. This Sunday the draws for both the Town Championship and Executive Competition will take place at the Navigation Inn at about 12.30pm. These matches will then take place on Thursday February 26.
