Table-toppers Town in 7-0 triumph

ALNWICK PREMIER DARTS LEAGUE (ROUND-UP FROM FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 6 2009)
ALNWICK Town A have opened up a 20-point gap at the top of the Alnwick Premier Darts league.

The run-away leaders have been impressive throughout the campaign, and their week 14 result was no different.

The formidable football club side crushed the Fleece with an all-conquering 7-0 victory on Friday (Feb 6) night. And in impressive form, they dropped just one leg all night. On their way to triumph, Peter Saunders and Kevin Fletcher both hit 180's.

The Alnwick Arms moved into second with a 5-2 win over the Farriers. They leapfrogged Alnmouth Village – whose clash with the John Bull was cancelled – to keep the race for second-place well and truly alive. It was a hard-fought victory for the Arms, who had been locked at 2-2 with the Farriers after the singles.

But the Village, now with a game in hand, could regain second-place if they win their rescheduled match with the John Bull.
At the wrong end of the table, Alnwick Golf Club grabbed a vital win. The second-from-bottom side secured crucial points as they beat Football Club B 5-2.

It was a disappointing result for the B, who defeated high flying Alnmouth Village last week. But a distinctly under par performance meant they could not build on their great week 13 win and went down to the Golf Club. At 2-2 after the singles, the golfers adjusted their grip on proceedings to win the doubles and team game for a thoroughly deserved victory to be-lie their lowly league position. Their triumph, coupled with the Fleece's defeat against Alnwick Town A, sees the Golf Club reduce the deficit between them and the Fleece to just one point.

But there was no such luck for the league's basement side - the Queens.
At the Oddies the Market Tavern narrowly beat the struggles 4-3.
The game was all square after the singles before the home side enjoyed success in both doubles matches. The Queens grabbed a consolation, pulling a point back in the team leg to end up with a very respectable 4-3 scoreline to the Tavern.

League action continues tomorrow. The Farriers welcome Alnwick Town A, the Queens Head host Alnwick Arms and Football Club B are at home to Market Tavern. There are also away trips for Alnwick Golf Club and Alnmouth Village, who travel to the John Bull and the Farriers respectively.
