The joy of darts - Thunder Mountain Open

SIERRA VISTA — Dart players hate to lose, but if they must, they’d prefer to have a little fun while doing it.

Locals make their dart-playing homes in leagues that meet in bars around town a few times a week, where the majority of players who play darts for sport and for leisure find a niche crowd to satisfy somewhat of an addiction to the game and to the camaraderie that comes with it.

Over several weekends during the year, these players travel in droves to tournaments all over the state. At the 20th Annual Thunder Mountain Open in Sierra Vista this weekend, smokes and beer were aplenty inside the VFW hall, where darts flew toward the board and scores were wiped clean while players jeered each other just enough to keep up a competitive atmosphere.
