Barneveld Ding Dong!
Raymond van Barnevald, the former postman, truly delivered the goods to come back from 3-0 and 5-3 down against darts legend Phil "The Power" Taylor. When Taylor raced into a 3-0 lead, a shellshocked Barney looked to have nothing to give. But Taylor seemed to take his foot of the gas and the Dutchman got into his stride and pulled out the big scores from the bag marked 180 - a stunning 21 by the end.
It was truly a sporting classic to begin 2007. However, after the ignominy for England during 2006, a defeat of Taylor in the opening sporting salvo of the year doesn't bode well for national sporting success. If Taylor, a 13-times world champion and generally one of the few jewels in the heavily looted crown that is English sport, fails, what chance the rest?
