One thousand pub darts teams have battled their way into the second round of the Courage Best National Pub Darts competition, held in association with the MA.
The teams have triumphed over 1,000 other teams and are edging closer to their share of the £16,000 prize.
Chris Lewis, marketing director for Wells & Young’s, said: “Darts is a proven driver of sales — particularly cask ale. By setting up a national darts tournament, pubs can make traditionally quiet nights into busy events.”
Andy Wallace, licensee of the Skinners Arms in Manningtree, Essex, believes in supporting pub teams. Its darts team has had a straight run of 96 victories in local league games, and he says: “The community is at the heart of our pub, so the more we can do for the community, the busier we get.”
In recent years, darts has become increasingly popular and is now the second most viewed sport on Sky Sports after Premiership football. (story source...)
