Continuing our ongoing series of betting tips on the Grand Slam of Darts, this article will preview the outright betting and match betting. The rematch of last year's Grand Slam final was played out on Wednesday night as tournament favourite Phil the "Power" Taylor disposed of Andy Hamilton in a tight 10-8 result.
Upcoming Clashes
The upcoming action includes the much-anticipated contest between Raymond van Barneveld and Darin Young. Barneveld is a heavy favourite going into this one listed at 1-12 with Paddy Power whilst Young is a distant 11-2. This is probably your best odds for an upset outside of the Taylor/Whitlock faceoff and if you think Barney is due for a blip then you may want to take a punt on this one.
The James Wade and Gary Anderson match should be a barn burner and while Wade is the bookmakers choice at 1-2, I'm going to have to back Anderson at an enticing 6-4. I have a feeling that he'll edge this one, just likely with only a frame or two to spare.
Mervyn King and Mark Webster is an absolute quandary for all involved with both listed at 5-6. I'd steer clear of placing any money on that one as the odds really aren't all that enticing either way in terms of match betting. Terry Jenkins is listed at evens to take on the favourite Robert Thornton and I'm going to back Jenkins on that one, simply because I think he's due.
Outright Betting
Phil Taylor is the outright favourite to win the tournament two years running and I really can't see anyone else pulling it off aside from van Barneveld. Pub sports enthusiasts from all over must be licking their chops at the prospect of a Barney/Power final. (story source...)
