Ilagan to lead RP in 2009 Ladbrokes world darts tilt

Lourence Ilagan of Cainta, Rizal will banner Team Philippines in the 2009 Ladbrokes.com World Darts Championship in London's Alexandra Place from December 19 this year up to January 4, 2009.

Ilagan, a 30-year-old contender, was named Philippine representative after winning the National Darts Federation of the Philippines (NDFP) qualifier in September, the NDFP reported.

The Cainta native was unscathed in nine games in the first group phase and became the joint winner inthe second group phase with five victories out of seven matches before bagging the overall victory in the knockout stage.

Ilagan was 2008 NDFP champ and also won the Malacca Open in Malaysia. He also Asia's leading soft-tip player. This year, he won the Macau Open, Singapore Open and Japan Open.

Ilagan is the second Filipino to represent his country in the £740,000 tournament will take place over 13 days over the Christmas and New Year period. World Championship. The first was Rizal Barellano who bowed to Miloslav Navratil in the preliminary round last year.

Ilagan is currently seventh in the NDFP rankings with 154 points.
