Darts: Westoe arrow in on victory


THE Westoe ran out 10-7 winners over visitors The Trams – after being 3-0 down – in the latest round of matches in the Vic Young South Tyneside Super League.

Trams won the first three legs. but a Westoe fightback saw them take the last two pairs to go into the singles just 3-2 down.

A Paul Hunter victory and a draw between Paul Charlton and Jackie Shone gave the Trams a useful 6-3 advantage.

However, wins by Westoe’s Ian Jackson, John Ramsay and Colin Umpleby, and a draw between Derek Bland and Mark Cairns, gave Westoe the victory.

The Alberta Bar played the Sunderland Lads from the New Demi and led 3-2 going into the singles.

Wins by Mick Woods and Billy Gowans and a draw between Ernie Ives and Craig Ryan gave the Alberta a 8-3 lead, a victory by the Demi’s Miles Turnbull then cutting the lead to 8-5.

However, success for Robbie Young and a draw between Dave Sinclair and Andy King gave the The Jarrow Lads a 11-6 triumph.

There were 180s for Ernie Ives and Andy King.

The derby between the Catholic Club teams saw the B side lead 4-1 going into the singles.

A draw between John Harte and Dave Whitehead was followed up by victories for the B team’s Dave Hatch and Paul Johnson to give them a 9-2 lead.

Draws between Trevor Young and Les Bulha and Deka Kennedy and Andy Nellist were eclipsed by a win by Ernie Hudson to give the B team a 13-4 verdict.

Annie McCarthy’s played the Jolly Stewart and found themselves 3-2 down going into the singles.

A draw between Bob Urwin and Paul Wood was followed up by a victory by Jolly’s Dennis Holmes.

Derek Boak then pulled two points back for Annie’s and, with Jimmy Hudson- Jeff Houghton and Norman Davison-Neil Tate drawing their matches, the game was 8-7 to the Jolly – but John Naughton won the last two points to give Annie’s a 9-8 victory. (story source...)
