Darts team have hit the diet 180

THE lads from the Halliwell Super League Darts Team challenged Fit Squad to help them achieve their aim – to banish their beer bellies and get into shape.

After years of booze, bar snacks and no exercise, we had to get strict with the Bolton boys – and they had to get serious.

The results speak for themselves.

Our seven lads have hit the bullseye and lost a total of 180lb (12st 12lb) in just three months.

And all are determined to continue with their new winning lifestyles.

Diet expert Amanda Ursell says: “I listened to what all the boys had to say and decided on some basic rules for everyone, then gave some individual tips to each of them as well.”

Here’s what she told them . . .

1. All the lads were asked to halve their alcohol intake.

2. No sugar in tea or coffee.

3. Ditch all sugary sodas, squashes, juices and smoothies and drink water instead.

4. Aim for five servings of fruit and vegetables daily.

5. Replace chips with boiled or baked potatoes.

6. Either take their own food to away darts matches or have half the amount of bar food they would normally.

7. Eat three meals a day.

8. Swap standard mayonnaise for extra-light mayonnaise or reduced-fat salad cream.

9. No pastries, including savoury pies.

10. Only takeaways on the Fit Squad list were allowed (see fitsquad.co.uk).

11. Only semi-skimmed or, preferably, skimmed milk allowed.

12. Swap cakes and biscuits for fruit snacks.

The team also had to get moving.

Fitness expert Nicki Waterman says: “I gave all the boys pedometers and wanted them to aim to build up to at least 10,000 steps a day.

“I gave each member their own tips depending on past and current fitness levels.”
